He will get a chance before the year is out I believe.
I can't imagine Corey getting a game unless we get a few injuries, he certainly isn't replacing any mid in the 22 at the moment and IMO a few others who are waiting in the wings are ahead of him eg. Deven Robertson, Ely Smith, Rhys Matheison, Tom Berry.

Unless they want to see what he can do at senior level before delisting him. Someone like Mathieson might be overlooked for Corey - Rhys has had a heap of chances at senior level and they'd be pretty across his capabilities. Less so with Lyons though.

Rhys too is playing for his career.

With our list for 2020 finalized this morning these are our OOC players for 2020.

Sam Skinner
Corey Lyons
Matt Eagles
Cedric Cox
Jacob Allison
Toby Wooller
Stef Martin
Grant Birchall
Mitchell Hinge
Ryan Lester
Allen Christensen

- Stef Martin at 33 now is a likely retirement IMO.
- Grant Birchall needs to show he is over is injuries or it'll be a 1 season cameo as a Lion.
- Corey Lyons after zero games in 3 years and Mitchell Hinge 2 games in 3 years need to play a substantial amount of games in the seniors to get retained, unlikely IMO.
- Ryan Lester retained purely for his leadership at NEAFL level IMO, he won't be on our list in 2021, young guys will go past him at a rapid rate.
- I'm confident Sam Skinner, Cedric Cox and Toby Wooller will show enough to get retained.
- Unfortunately I think 2020 will be Matty Eagles last year as a Lion, just can't see him getting a decent shot at it unless we get extensive injuries.
- Jacob Allison wont be a Lion in 2021.
- Allen Christensen the hardest one for me to predict, definitely needs to lock down a regular senior spot to be retained.

Going out on a limb a long way out I'll predict >

Retire- Grant Birchall, Stef Martin, Allen Christensen.
Retained- Toby Wooller, Cedric Cox, Sam Skinner.
Delisted- Jacob Allison, Matty Eagles, Ryan Lester, Corey Lyons, Mitchell Hinge.
What you have proposed is reasonable, but I think it is a bit of a boys club at the Lions and with Lester being played over Witho, Payne or Answerth, he will probably get another contract. Don't be surprised with his overall fitness Martin goes around again. Don't be surprised if Birchall enjoys the sunshine and wants another year, has links with Fages and Hodge. I would not be surprised if a few of the young guys seek trades, there is the 22 core players and about 3-4 peripheral players.

really comes down to list size and also where we end up at the end of the year.
If lists drop to say 36 thats 11 players? (think we have 47?) and if you need 2-3 spots for draft.. 13~
As others said not sure how many teams have many OOC. So be interesting what happens.
I say be less player movement as well this year.

Say it be a good chance Birchall and Martin want to go around, it probably depend where we are and their bodies.
Lester having a second coming at the moment.
Bundy seems behind T Berry and we still have Matho on contract.
Also the young kids E Smth, Dev, Joyce, Coleman, Prior and B Smith.

Honestly I could see only Martin, Birchall and Lester signed if lists cut.
Be a shame to loose Skinner although we have Ballenden/Fullarton/Payne signed to end of 2021
Add McFayden and Wooler as well have a few signed for next year.

So if lists cut I say those OOC this year in trouble if not playing senior 22 week in and week out

What you described Ralphy is every premiership team, every champion team, every era that ever was. A core 22 (so called the boys club) a few peripherals and high caliber development boys and the rest desperadoes who for a variety of reasons may never get a chance. Some of these will have the character and mettle to continue and persevere, some will give up and go into obscurity and some will move on in search of opportunities. It's the nature of the beast. If a premiership is won then it's all kudos to the coach, if nothing comes from it (high %, as there can only be one premiership team) it's good bye Fages and welcome someone else and we start again. That's team sport, full of hard luck stories.

Rhys has a lot more upside in his game than he's given credit for. His fitness levels are off the charts. His disposal is his biggest downfall.
I agree, I'm a huge supporter of Rhys, hence why I've been pushing his case all year to be included in the seniors. I personally think he offers a lot more than Ah Chee, CEY and Tom Berry.

In your opinion, how does his disposal compare to Mitch Robbo?

Couldn't be worse. Like everyone, I love Robbo, but no one can say that more often than not, he just kicks it as far as he can our of wherever he is forward, often blindly. A lot of times it works, others it doesn't.

I personally think Mathieson is more measured in his kicking than Robbo.

When Robbo looks up, he's actually quite good at hitting a target. It's the looking up hard that seems to challenge him.

I suspect though that Fagan has given him the clearance to just chaos ball it out of the center if need be and back ourselves to intercept the potential turn over.
