Yeah unfortunately it's tough for small, slow, inside mids with poor skills.
Matho isn’t small. 186cm from memory. He’s not really slow either. It’s more that he’s not agile inside the contest.

Basically, he plays a similar game style to Jarryd Lyons.

I agree, I'm a huge supporter of Rhys, hence why I've been pushing his case all year to be included in the seniors. I personally think he offers a lot more than Ah Chee, CEY and Tom Berry.
If you look at our best 22 midfield, they are all a different type of mid with a distinguishable style of play or role.

The closest duplication would be Bailey and Zorko, and Tom Berry and MRobbo.

My guess would be if Lyons was injured, we might bring Mathieson to play a similar role. If we wanted experience in that role.

Tom Berry, Ely Smith and Dev Robertson potentially all have higher ceilings, which is why they might be brought in ahead of Mathieson now.

This is very much a result of picking best player available at the draft and having later first round picks recently.

All the quality talls and smaller skilled players are usually taken within the first 15 to 18 picks, which often leaves the “second tier” of mids the next best available.

So we’ve loaded up on a lot of young mids over the last 4 drafts.

Yep similar to Lyons and look at how tough his career has been

I suspect though that Fagan has given him the clearance to just chaos ball it out of the center if need be and back ourselves to intercept the potential turn over.
Yeah pretty sure that is part of the game plan. Whoever is off the back of the pack (usually Robbo) usually one step hacks it forward up the line

Its not the silliest of tactics considering how well we've shown we can shutdown rebounds so it doesnt bother me to much personally.

In your opinion, how does his disposal compare to Mitch Robbo?
His disposal is elite compared to Mitch Robbo as I classify Robbo as the worst exponent of the kick on our list...maybe even the competition. It would significantly help our team if Mitch maybe had a look before he just bombs in anywhere. Very surprised he is allowed to do just that.

As I mentioned before, he was always a long shot to make it.

Drafted at a time when we had genuinely questionable depth in the midfield. So was worth a punt. But we kept drafting higher rated mids every subsequent draft. And trading in more.
Yes is a little sad that some of the guys can't get a chance and look like finishing up this
If Ely Smith doesn't break into the team this season or at least get a few games surely he'd be looking at other opportunities, if there are any around the league.
100%, Depending if list sizes are reduced, even though a QLDer I would put Payne in the same situation and one or two others.
I believe if the AFL is trying to claw back revenue from TV rights play 25 or 26 games instead of the usual 22. Two Q clashes, play every team once and those that finish in the the first nine, play each other twice. The NRL already play 25 or 26 rounds (except this year) plus three State of Origins.

The NRL play 26 games, because they only have 14 teams and play a full home and away fixture.

I don't think you watch enough AFL if you think Robbo could be anywhere near the worst in the competition. We have prioritised skills so I can't think of any that would necessarily be worse, other than an Archie or a Stef, but competition-wide there's plenty of players who struggle to hit targets under no pressure.

It would significantly help our team if Mitch maybe had a look before he just bombs in anywhere. Very surprised he is allowed to do just that.
For someone who insists on defending the forwards as a victim of the game plan, I'm surprised that you don't account for Robbo repeatedly and consistently doing something without being dropped for it potentially being part of the game plan too.

People seem to forget that Robbo is basically a velvet hammer type player. He isnt our elite user like McCluggage and co. His job is to put his body on the line to get the ball as far in our direction as possible. His disposal intention is to introduce a chaos ball into the enemies defense that either we take advantage of or if they rebound we are in a good position to intercept.

He plays his role well, as he showed on the weekend, and he+McCluggage were easily top 10 Wingmen last season, even if not recongnised for it.

Tigers bleeding a few fringe players now.
Honestly if we have another year with such a low injury list it does not help fringe players get a game.
We turn over players more on injury than form.
3 players went from round 1 team a few months later although Birchall and Ah Chee where traded in as top 22 players.

I think Witho will fight back and grab a spot in the team by finals.

On that note. Just saw that his dad just had a bit of a snapback at some comments on fb.

Change his game after 2 years, I'm assuming that means not to take too big a risk with his kicks. Who was the other half back that gave away 3 goals in Giants semi?

Would be hard being a parent of a player who is a whipping boy.
