Why have the winds turned on Freeman so quickly? I really saw a future for him. Is it simply poor performances in the NEAFL?
I'm with you, really liked his "potential", there's that word again. He can really clunk a mark which a lot of our KPFs seem not the be able to do and a reliable set shot. Really needs to work on his repeat efforts and forward pressure though, this off season Jono run, run and run again. I would like to see him given 1 more year (OOC 2017) to show us something.

Lester has certainly been the best we have seen him this year. And we need blokes like him in the team. Hard working role players. But he has hit his peak and is unlikely to get much better. He has surprised me a little this year. Although last year i was very surprised that he was given a 2 yr contract.
Lester has been Mr Reliable this year. Knows now what he is capable of and plays within his limitations. Has benefited from the new coaching regime

And has been one of our more consistent performers in 2017; which makes it even less surprising that he was elevated to the leadership group.

Lester will never be a stand out like Beams, but rarely, if at all, sinks to the level of Tom Bell most weeks.

Time running out for Ryan Harwood, dropped to the NEAFL half way through the year and OOC at the end of the year.

This time next year he could be back in Tasmania playing for the Glenorchy magpies.

Keep:
Tom Rockliff, Nicholas Robertson, Michael Close, Daniel McStay, Tom Cutler, Claye Beams, Ryan Harwood, Josh Schache, Ben Keays, Cian Hanley (R), Matthew Hammelmann (R), Reuben William (R), Matt Eagles (R), Jake Barrett (R), Oscar McInerney (R).

CBeams, Harwood to be developed as defensive forwards.

Delist:
Jonathan Freeman, Jarrad Jensen, Josh Clayton, Blake Grewar (R), Mitchell Hinge (R)
Find a way to delist Bell, Bewick.

How many do we have to delist?

Cian is in year three as a rookie so it is up or out for him. I suspect that will come down to list management and space because he has 'shown signs' but realistically is still at least 12 months of a regular senior spot.

Starting to take shape, time is running out for some unless there is a left field dramatic turnaround in form. My updated thoughts-

OOC 2017, delist- C.Beams, Freeman (possible trade?), Harwood, Jansen, Clayton, Hammelmann, Eagles, Grewar.

Look at trade options- Rich, Martin, Freeman?, Paparone + highly unlikely Bewick and Bell, who would have zero interest out there.

Grewer is a rookie, reckon we should keep him at least another year

Yep, I was 50/50 on him when I posted that, wouldn't be totally against giving him one more year at it, I've liked some of his form in the NEAFL. The thing that counts against him for me is his age (24), usually a 24 year old mid has either made it or been de listed by that age.

I don't agree with delisting Harwood at all. I haven't seen enough of Grewar other than the streamed NEAFL games, but I wouldn't have thought we'd delist a rookie after only one season. Eagles us i a different position given how he was recruited and our depth of KP player.

I view Ryan as similar to Claye, both have had many years in the system to show something and have on occasion but in rare glimpses. Both have been unlucky with injury though.

Claye- 7 years and 51 games.
Ryan- 8 years and 81 games.

IMO time is up.

I'm happy to keep those still on rookie contracts. Grewar is a NEAFL level talent. We need a couple of these to round out our NEAFL team. It's unlikely we take more than one or two picks in to the rookie draft.

Zorks debuted at 23 I believe, this fact is why I have faith in Grewer. No reason to draft him unless he's actually shown some late potential.

I would keep Harwood ahead of Bewick and bell but he is the unlucky one to be out of contract this year.

I can't see us opening up less than the 5 senior list spots this off season and Jason named the 5 uncontracted players who are in trouble (the only other two uncontracted are Robertson and Rockliff)

From memory, Harwood was drafted as inside mid. There was a game against Geelong in his very first year - he was at the bottom of the packs, feeding it to outside runners. Looked a natural there, not sure why we didn't persist with him on that role. Moved to defense and did a half decent job locking down the small defender role. Recently dropped, went back to reserves and kicked 6 as a forward.

I see us keeping Ryan for his ability to cover multiple roles and a mature body compared to others. We don't have many players who can do this in our list.

Probably hasn't had a decent enough run of games and off seasons training to build up the endurance base to play midfield. It's a shame because like a few of our players (would be the same at other clubs) their best is good enough to build a decent career at AFL level unfortunately either by injury or lack of consistency they haven't.

Where our current draft picks sit, I'd be surprised if we took more than 4 to the draft.

This is not the draft to be loading up. I'd even consider trading our 3rd round pick for a pick next year, and just take our 3 early picks to the draft.

I think Harwood, Beams, Freeman, Jansen and Clayton will be delisted from the senior side which leaves 5 spots to fill.

Hopefully we upgrade Barrett, use pick 1, Ballenden (port pick), Cameron (second rounder) and use our 3rd (approx pick 38).

Even though I agree with you john nailed it on the head when he said he is unlucky he is one of the few ooc. He has shown more poise and grit at the top level then bell, but as mentioned he is unlucky

Good players make their own luck. He has had long enough to cement his spot, but has failed. Not that I would be unhappy keeping him for depth. It is a cut-throat business & Harzy is expendable.

There seems to be a lot of criticism aimed at Tom Bell. I know he has a broken leg now, but as has been mentioned, he has a contract for next year. Does anyone think he has struggled this year because he is being played out of position ?? He is super hard at it and has the body to really crash in, why isn't he played in a complete inside mid role, similar to what Clayton Oliver does for the Dees ?? His foot skills are obviously questionable when he gets the ball on the outside, but that is completely nulllified if he is just in winning the hardball. Crack in, win it at the feet of Stef Martin, and feed out sharp handballs. He has the tank to do it, and playing him on the flanks makes his weaknesses stand out more than they probably need to.
