Who is the Greatest Lion/Bear Ever.

If you were to look at players who've just played as a Brisbane Lion, then I think you'd have to say it's Simon Black, followed by Browny as a close second.

seriously, if you look at Voss's career from the early days at the bears to the glory days at the lions for 3 premierships...there is really no competition for the best ever lions player..seriously, no discussion is needed

JOHNNY GASTEV!!!

What gave you the idea I was taking the piss? He's a forgotten player when people talk of the Bears. It's all Roger Merrett and Richard Champion.

Gastev never gets talked up.

Former Geelong great Andrew 'The Rat' Bews played the odd good game for the Bears too!

Only because I have had to go into bat for him so many times. I’ve got no idea how it started but for some reason he is very often referred to in derisive terms.

We would have found a spot for him if he had played during our premiership years.

how can you go past simon black, brownlow medalist, 3 time premiership player, norn smith medalist and 3 club champions

Kevin Murray: Brownlow Medal, 9 times best & Fairest would have to go close. However Hayden Bunton won 3 Brownlow Medals & then went to WA & won 3 Sandover Medals. They say he missed a fourth Brownlow by backchatting the umpire while walking off the field on one occasion where he was clearly best on ground. In terms of "greatness" they would be deserving winners. However if I was forming a team made up of all the great Lions players, the first player I would pick would be ... Michael Voss.

I'd second the Bunton nomination on pure solo ability.

My grandfather saw every player from 1899 to 1990 and assured me no-one, at any club, came near Bunton for sheer ability and athleticism.

My picks, from 1960 to now, are: most gifted - Bernie Quinlan; most talented - Gary Wilson; most inspirational - Michael Voss; most exciting - Mick Conlan/Jason Akermanis.

There are only two kinds of people in this world: those who say "There are only two kinds of people in this world" and those don't.

Voss is number 1. By the time Brown retires, he'll be number 2. Black 3. Akermanis 4.

That's how I see it anyway.

Triple Dead Heat: - Hayden Bunton, Michael Voss and Kevin Murray.

Honourable mentions: - Simon Black, Paul Roos, Gary Wilson, Bernie Quinlan, Jason Akermanis, Harvey Merrigan, Luke Power, Nigel Lappin, Leon Harris and Michael Conlan.

The If Only He'd Stayed Award: Dead Heat - Frank Marchesani & Nathan Buckley
