With only 3 hours between the ND and the Rookie Draft, this thread might no go very far. But I would be interested in knowing, of those who missed ND selection, who did you think was a surprise to miss.

I really think Mitch Grigg has something to offer at the next level to the right club.

I think Tyron Smallwood is a bit unlucky.

That's different to being good enough to play AFL, though. Ryan Murphy syndrome.

When 15 SANFL players are taken it's surprising that the guy who's won the last two league B&Fs, then had 30 touches and kicked 6 in the GF, isn't one of them.

He's not just a good player in that league, he's ripped it to shreds.

I thought Pickett would have been picked up even as a rookie by one of the WA clubs and the other one that was a chance was the ex Giants Academy player Maguire who was playing for Canberra but I think it is the change of clubs to use the rookie list for experienced depth now instead of mature players.
I was surprised with Tim Mohr being picked up by the Hawks, at 30 and having done 2 ACLs he must surely be close to the last player they would pick if they need an AFL player. I am sure he will be ok in the VFL but good luck to him at such a great club

Grigg as a mature ager clearly stands out for mine. It's not his ability but clubs possibly worried about his Dad etc and how that may affect Mitch moving interstate. He is miles ahead of some of the mature agers picked in this draft and they aren't bad by any stretch either. Jhye Bolton deserved a go.

Otherwise Tom Lewis, stands out. Sydney Stack also though he did have some issues. Hayden Sampson for mine is better than Tarca and Cox who got rookied from SA

Stack for sure.

It seems like re: the mature agers the ones picked were generally 21-23 and weren't mids. That had to hurt Pickett, Grigg and Bolton. West Coast going for Smith or Edwards over Pickett/Bolton given they needed guys for their WAFL team too is very surprising to me.

Suppose that’s a red flag in itself
Or they just don’t see a need

On Gibbons, what is the exact knock on him?
Is it as simple as height / stature?
Seems odd that he continually misses out given his proven performance.
Stack there seems to be background talk of some issues, so I guess that would explain it
Grigg seems unlucky as based on what I read he was the clear standout performer and he has seen others get taken ahead of him.

Seen a heap of him in recent years.

Very small (178cm iirc) with limited kicking (45m would be his range) would be a problem at the higher level.

Tremendous young man who runs all day but he is simply a smaller version of Michael Barlow
