Young, Rounds and Clarke would be the 3 most obvious.
Someone like Sidebottom/Wellingham or a younger player in Seedsman/Yangamoor could step up.
Leon was very strong for his size though and that made his transition to defence easier than it would be for a younger player who hasn't developed as much.

Leon played a role only Leon could play, it was mainly an attacking role, and he was also our primary kick in man after an opposition behind.
Marty Clarke is the obvious replacement in the 22, but I'd say no one will play the exact role Leon played, a number of different options will be used to replace his drive off half back.

I'd like to see Tom Young get a decent run at it next year. But having said that, Leon will never be replaced. His end of career highlights will be a 6DVD box set. Leon, you are a bloody champ, and will be sorely missed.
The choice is obvious Witts as a running half back

We didn't have his run off the half back in 2010 and we won a premiership didn't we? Someone will have to step up and fill the void, whether that's Clarke, Tom Young, or Johnny Appleseed, who knows.

I like his agility and balance, nice safe hands also.
Doh!!!.........and we had kept it quiet for so long. Now all the other teams recruiters are going to break out the tapes of this kid and pick him before he slides to pick 50.

Shone from Frankston in their backline when they were getting whoppings. Tough to do whent eh footy is coming down there so often.
Sad if he's not playing due to lower than expected wages. All Australian and a big surprise packet during 2011. Will be missed.

In effect Davis move to defense was an awesome bonus to an already excellent defensive group.
My feeling is we won't see Davis replaced in that role. I don't think we have anyone capable of it bar maybe Rounds. But Davis was a unique player and probably can't be replaced in that role.
My bet is this:
FB:-------Toovey-------Tarrant------O'Brien------
HB ---------Shaw--------Reid--------Maxwell-----
Bench: Brown
Those seven will switch around positionally a bit but they will be our first choice defensive group.

Whilst he was a great player for your club I don't think you'll miss him. You won the flag in 2010 without him having a good season or playing the role he did for you this year.
I tend to agree.. i know Leon was all Australian this year but if Geelong can cover Gary Ablett we can cover Leon Davis.
As Quicky said no on can replace him in that role - Shaw is the closest to him in terms of on-on-one ability, run and kicking, but Shaw's taller and his kicking isn't as slick as Leon's.
Question will be whether we play Shaw off the half-back line or continue to play him more in the midfield as we did last year and accept a player with more limited ability (Rounds, Young, Clark) to fill Leon's spot off half-back.
