Bate got crunched early but I agree he has been bad 2 weeks straight.
He will get another chance. Guaranteed.
If Sylvia is ready to go then Bartram out.
I agree he did his job but that's the best he'll ever do.
Bate can tear a game apart. Bartram can't.
If Rivers is good then Strauss. He will grow & come on but a couple of weeks tearing it up with Casey will do him a world of good.

I noticed Jordie Gysberts named emergency?
How far is he away? I'd love to see him on the park. BP obviously saw something in him to take him at 11.

Serious?

Brown was average, but Cloke was good... and too big for Joel Mac. He took a number of contested marks. We needed Rivers.

Shoosh.
I don't know what game you were watching. 8 disposals and 1 goal was a good game was it? Probably a good game for Rivers. Even if Rivers does get a game he doesn't deserve it. He's playing on reputation. The Rivers of old the one that peeled off to help the key defenders went missing last year and in RND 1 (probably because he gets injured every time he does it), how many times was Roughhead one out on Warnock? Far too many times, it's not as if Rivers was playing on a gun, he was playing on a no name.

Frawley is a gun, if we can get Garland fit he will be a gun, he's quicker and adds more run out of the back half and I think he is a smarter footballer. The only bloke that could make way for Rivers is Warnock. Warnock tries but he has no talent and makes silly mistakes.

hahaha you think 68% efficiency is good....its supporters like this that bring the club down because their happy and content with mediocrity which probably sums up your existence of earth as well.

I wouldn't say 19 possessions is a lot and most of them were ineffective dinky kicks or misguided handballs...he only had 2 tackles in such a fiercy contested match and only 3 marks

You're right 19 pos isn't much but when only 6 other players have more its not to bad. I'm not happy with mediocrity but Nathan Jones is not mediochre. My only criticism of Nath is that he takes too many opponents on and gets caught but we don't know what his instructions are and here I am bagging him whilst sitting behind my computer whilst he's busting his gut.

By the way not 1 other person has agreed with your post.

Within 2-3 weeks Gysberts,Garland and Watts will be playing.

You are joking aren't you? It's got me stuffed what people see in Rivers, he hasn't had a kick for years, but that could not possibly be the reason to put Rivers in. Cloke and Brown were pathetic.

Rivers is a spoiling defender - not a playmaker. He's got the height which makes him great for matchups and he floats backs into packs on a regular basis creating contests. Doesnt kick alot but is a good defender imo. Adead of Warnock. Rivers is not a VFL player.

Rubbish. Miller was poor last year as well. Bate was good last year. Bate has an excuse because he is underdone, Miller never has an excuse.

Agreed. We should keep running with Bate for a few more weeks at least - but not Miller.

.... if ready. Reading between the lines, it seems that they want our Jack to have a solid 4-5 weeks at Casey first. Maybe the same for Gys/Garland.

At which time other players might come (back) into the equation as well ... Wonna/Jetta/Blease/PJ, even Bell.

Gonna be an interesting few weeks, whatever happens. Will be looking forward to those Casey reports.

OUTS

Clint Bartram: Called up to replace Spencer today but had minimal to zero impact on the game today.

Keeping leon davis to 2 goals and 13 touches indirectly affects the game. Im glad a few other posters acknowledge his efforts later in the thread. There is more to football and a make up of a team, than winning possesions.

Bennell looked dangerous, but was quiet in the first half and made a pretty half hearted attempt to mark the footy late in the 3rd quarter.

I hope we persist with Struass and Scully. Bate needs more time, don't worry bout his ability to play the game, worry about his fitness. If rivers comes back i think we need to move bruce forward.

That's the problem I have with Rivers. It is such a running game now I think nearly all of defenders have to create run, so I find it hard to see Warnock and Rivers in the same side.

Rivers is a better player than Warnock, but he has never proven himself as a key defender and I think he is nowhere near as good as he used to be at peeling off and helping our key defenders.

I agree but we have one forced change to make with the return of Sylvia.
Hmmmm....that's quite a pickle. Have the feeling it'll be Bate or Bennell who'll face the axe. A shame, but somebody has to make way for Col.

Might get caned for this, but I don't think we should be making any unforced changes this week.
I'd agree with you, but we can't leave Sylvia out, he is arguably our most complete player. Bennell will probably be the unlucky omission, though on form it would be Bate to go.

Having just seen the Footy Classified interview online, I can't help but think the extra runner in Bartram helped with the rotations and run in the legs. Therefore, I don't know whether I want to see Rivers back in place of someone like Bartram or Bennell.

Bennell will make room for Sylvia (if fit). Bartram may be sacrificed for Rivers depending on fitness and match-ups. Juice might go as well.
Those calling for Garland now need to realise they guy has had no pre-season and played half a practice match! Give him a chance to get som match practice at least!
Bate will be kept, because he is important to the structure. You need 194cm guys with a bit of toe, especially if you are playing with no key forwards.

He's had more match practice than just a half but one more game at Casey should do it providing he gets through unscathed.

If Bate is underdone then that alone is enough for him to be dropped. Petterd and Dunn both showed more than Bate did and Sylvia will slot in there too.

The increase in rotations from Round 1 to Round 2 was helped by the fact that we brought in two extra running players. However, Collingwood are usually the top ranked side for rotations so it was crucial that we matched them in that area.

Adelaide have a lot of tall marking forwards (Tippett, Walker, Hentschel, Burton) so we will need to bring back one more tall at the expense of a runner. The logical choice would be Rivers for Bennell or Bartram.

This means we continue to not have a true backup ruckman for Jamar, but I'd rather have the extra running player than a near-useless tall like Spencer. I'm sure Newton's height and leap will allow him to compete when needed. Plus, Adelaide don't have great ruckmen so we can afford to let Jamar play a solo role.

Bate has to go. He has had 2 shockers in a row.
Whether it's fitness or lack of skill - needs some time away from our forward line.

In: Sylvia and Rivers
Out: Bate and Bennell
A lot of talk about the lack of form from Bate's first 2 weeks but what about Rivers? What form has he had?

Looking at Adelaide's forward line. They don't really have a Davis type in their side so there will probably be no need to have both Strauss and Bartram in the side. Bennell gives us some much needed pace in the forward line so I'm now leaning towards Bartram making way for Sylvia because I think that we have to continue to play a young kid like Strauss.

honestly thought bartram was excellent last week... gave us some really good hardness and presure in the back half and was actually not to bad with it once he got it i didnt think... must say id be surprised to see him miss... but if riv and syl are right both will come in so has to be someone i guess... bate could def be in trouble...

Tippett is out of form and may have to spend more time as the second ruck.
Walker will be lucky to stay in the side.
Hentschel played down back for some reason.
Grimes, MacDonald or Bruce should be able to handle Burton.

Rivers was okay in the first game and didn't play vs Collingwood due to injury.

I also rate him as a better footballer than Bate.
