Who will be the first player found guilty of diving?

Yep, and Cesc Fabregas scored a penalty for Arsenal last week whilst playing with a broken leg - must have been faking it.

And there is a big difference between what you say happened, and what did happen. Do you honestly believe that Williams would sacrifice his vice-captain and most desparate player?

I believe Williams is the sort of coach who would do anything for a win.

Sacraficing someone for the last 3.5 minutes isn't that much to pay for a major tactical advantage. When his best small backman went down with an injury he had a choice to make, take him off with the help of trainers and the game plays on with Ports backline a man down or send out the stretcher so the game was stopped. Its not a hard decision to make really. He was smart, he used the rules to advantage his teams chances.

If you seriously don't think thats how it panned out you need to open the other eye.;)

As to the soccer reference...........................WTF has that got to do with anything in our game?

I've seen plenty of players grab their face when contact wasn't even close to their face. Brad Johnson must do that 100 times a season. Milne did one in the GF last year (1st qtr). Didak does it often too.

Not sure what games you've been watching.

So you think that diving is more when someone goes down with no contact made? Or no contact to the area they are holding. I would think the below video shows soccer diving with contact :D

Diving is also just losing your feet from the slightest touch when it normally wouldn't happen. In regards to the Riewoldt incident, imagine Carey sitting at home watching that. He would be wondering how easy it would be for him in this day and age. Pathetic rule (umpires gave it directly) but the people who bring in these rules need to have a good look at themselves

Since when is it only about diving, I thought the new rule was going to be for staging of any kind?

It's going to be a difficult one to police, given that contact is emphasised so many times a game.

Watch today how many people open their arms to show they don't have the ball while being held, how many times players jerk their head to exaggerate head high contact, how many times someone overeacts to some kind of incidental punch.

My personal favourite, shake your head and blink your eyes hundreds of times when someone has practically brushed your face with their fingertips.

Lol, that is a good one.

However, I prefer the look dazed and gingerly touch the back of your head and then look at your fingertips to see if you are bleeding. Classic

stevie j, watching cats v hawks now - commentators have said "johnson playing for a free" about 3 times and missed 2 others

I have Johnson and Didak at 1 and 2 because they are players I've actually seen try to milk a free when there has been absolutely no contact what so ever.

Frankiln today vs Geelong 2nd qtr in the goalsquare. Pathetic!

The other is Tippett. Watch how he throws his head back when he is tackled around the waiste. Happens EVERYTIME

Me think you need glasses.

Shields will be out for a couple with that effort, not even in play and he lined him up 10m away.

Dirty little sniper.
Are you serial? He missed him, at the very least he missed where Ling started holding his head anyway. He barely touched Ling.

Re: Will Steve Johnson be the first to get pinged for diving?

The fact that Riewoldt wasn't done after last weeks effort shows that the AFL don't really give a toss.

Biggest dive of all time gst nothing, this rule has gone as quick as it started.
Biggest dive of all time is Didak. So if the AFL are using that as a bench mark, then everyone else has a long way to go before any one is booked for diving.

Re: Will Steve Johnson be the first to get pinged for diving?

Very annoying when S.Johnson does dive, put your energy into getting the ball.....you'd think he'd be up there as the first to get pinged, he does dive (or close to it) enough.
