We have thirteen unsigned players on the list at this point.
What's your view on if they re-sign or not with the club.
The player are.
1. Brayden Cook
2. Brodie Smith
3. Chris Burgess
4. Elliot Himmelberg
5. Hugh Bond
6. James Borlase
7. Lochie Gollant
8. Lochie Scholl
9. Ned McHenry
10. Patrick Parnell
11. Sam Berry
12. Taylor Walker
13. Will Hamill

I think we keep Cook (2-3 years), Gollant ( 1 year or Rookie), Berry (2 year), Walker (1 year), Scholl (2 year), Hamill (2 year), Borlase (Rookie extension), Bond (1 year), Ned (1 year)

What say ye?
Agree with most but we have seen enough of Ned to know he isn’t up to it. Was a bad selection by Hamish and as many pointed out at the time a player whose main positive attributes are endurance and a positive team mate isn’t enough unfortunately. Bond from almost all accounts also isn’t up to it.

Sholls year has saved him and I have always like Hamill so glad he is displaying what he is capable of.

Cook 3 years is risky. Let’s face facts - he does #### all most games and has embarrassing stats. It’s his 4th year and needs to materially increase output over coming years but worth another couple of years based on natural talent.

I think only three players have shown enough either this year or over their career to definitely deserve a contract extension

1. Taylor Walker
2. Brayden Cook
3. Lachlan Sholl

A few more need to show more throughout the year to get a contract

1. Will Hamill - trending towards a 1 year extension
2. Sam Berry - trending towards a 1 year extension
3. James Borlase - as depth

Then the group that hasn't shown enough and should be delisted

1. Patrick Parnell
2. Ned McHenry
3. Hugh Bond
4. Lachlan Gollant
5. Brodie Smith
6. Chris Burgess - though potentially keep as depth

And trade bait

1. Elliot Himmelberg - delist if not traded

But you can probably only limit your delistings to 6 or so unless you pick up players via trades or upgrade from rookie list.

Cooke is an iffy player. Jury is out on him.

Keep: Cook, Borlase, Scholl, Berry, Walker, Hamill, Burgess

Trade: Keane, Himmelberg, Gollant, McHenry (delist if no one wants him)

Delist: Bond, Parnell, Smith

1. Brayden Cook - No, however, he's the bubble player. I'm offering a year if we were to lose anyone contracted.
2. Brodie Smith - Yes, 1 year
3. Chris Burgess - Yes, 1 year
4. Elliot Himmelberg - No
5. Hugh Bond - No
6. James Borlase - Yes, 2 years
7. Lochie Gollant - No
8. Lochie Scholl - Yes, 2 years
9. Ned McHenry - No
10. Patrick Parnell - No
11. Sam Berry - Yes, 1 years
12. Taylor Walker - Yes, 1 year
13. Will Hamill - No.

Burgess is the best of our KPF depth and I'd rather hold onto Tex then either of Gollant or Himmelberg for next year.
Smith is solid enough, and we do lack for experience.
Borlase is pretty reliable depth, and likely cheap too - especially as I'd like to see us nudge Butts out in the next year or two.
Sholl has earned his contract.
Berry I'm willing to give an extra year.

Bond has shown nothing.
5+ years means its time for Himmelberg, Ned and Gollant to go.
Hamill and Cook haven't shown anything that makes either worthwhile to retain this year. Both are 4-5 years in and are at best, replacement level performance wise.
Parnell is an easy spot to also free up.

What is the bubble player

1. Brayden Cook - yes
2. Brodie Smith - no, cooked.
3. Chris Burgess- no, not AFL standard
4. Elliot Himmelberg - yes, but likely traded.
5. Hugh Bond - no
6. James Borlase - yes, useful depth
7. Lochie Gollant - yes, but likely traded
8. Lochie Sholl - yes
9. Ned McHenry - no, may get a trade
10. Patrick Parnell - no
11. Sam Berry - yes, but may request a trade
12. Taylor Walker - yes, if his body is OK, but doesn't play all games.
13. Will Hamill - yes

So that's 5 spots, likely more with trades... though hopefully we have some coming back in too.

1. Brayden Cook - Keep
2. Brodie Smith - Gone
3. Chris Burgess - Gone, Potato
4. Elliot Himmelberg - Gone (Walks to GWS)
5. Hugh Bond - Gone
6. James Borlase - Keep
7. Lachie Gollant - Gone
8. Lachie Sholl - Keep
9. Ned McHenry - Gone, a career in fishing, farming & radio is right up your alley.
10. Patrick Parnell - Gone
11. Sam Berry - Keep
12. Taylor Walker - Gone, thanks champ but its time.
13. Will Hamill - Keep

Eliott Himmelberg is Adelaide's biggest headache. I dont think we can afford to get rid of him. He is our only tall player in reserve. I however dont think its fair to hold him back from seeking greater opportunities elsewhere if the plan is not to play him. But here is the thing, what if we did? He has showed some signs this year he can become a regular and he has done some good things. What if we played both him and Thilthorpe. Both are ultra mobile tall forwards and one thing Himmelberg does well is actually read the play well as a link man when he is roaming around the center square.

Hypothetical

What if we played Thilthorpe deep forward and have Himmelberg and Fog roaming the top of the 50 in that linking role. And you could easily interchange Thilthorpe with Himmelberg.

Nicks would be a fool not to consider this in a post tex era....ok Nicks is a fool and he has probably already packed Himmelbergs bags for the end of the season in favour of McHenry and his shape running. But my idea I think is worth exploring to use the height to stretch the defense. Eliott is too good to waste.

Not the way I would go but we all know AFC will not delist Smith we are too nice.

I think we should give Tex another year and start the transition.

McHenry gone please he has had far too many opportunities already.

Gollant extremely lucky to get another year but is one of those guys who could just click.

Berry has earnt another year as has Sholl, Borlase, Cook and Hamill, Burgess surely signed on for 2 lucky for him if he did.

Parnell unlucky but gone Bond gone

Look, if you get to the point where someone who isn't a (and rarely has been a) regular after eight years on the list becomes a solution to any problem (that isn't just 'you want cheap depth and he's ok around the club house') you've overthought it and missed the mark.

It's time for Elliot and Adelaide to move on, and really, it was time last year. He has nothing to offer us as a best 22 player and we, equally, have nothing to offer him.

Berg isn’t a headache, he’ll either walk elsewhere as an unrestricted free agent or we’ll offer him an extension.

With Tex, does it depend on what happens in the off-season?

Prise Oliver loose, grab another via trade and Tex goes again.

If we are simply drafting more kids then Tex may as well call it a day.

Tex corrected himself on 7 news last night. He avoided answering whether he could be at another club next year by saying that’d be worked in after the season. He then corrected that to the next 4, 6 or 8 weeks. Last newspaper report was talks on hold till after season concludes, not sure if that’s still the case.

I just can't see why he's move for a 1 year contract when he was contracted for 2024 at the Sun. Big cajones if he did.
Writing was on the wall at suns that he wouldn’t get more

A move back to home state (may be future intention even if is delisted by either) andmost importantly probably sensed he may get more opportunity here (he has) to push his case to extend his career (he hasn’t)

The problem is he is our only tall depth. Do we fight for him to protect our list balance or do we simply part ways? Our list is a shambles in the tall player department and removing 7 years of development with no back up is going to hurt us.

1. Brayden Cook - you can see the talent. Worth another 2 years to see if we can winkle some production out of him.
2. Brodie Smith - pay him out and move on.
3. Chris Burgess - see if he wants to stay with the SANFL team to plug gaps. Not an AFL footballer.
4. Elliot Himmelberg - will walk as UFA to GWS.
5. Hugh Bond - probably not.
6. James Borlase - hasn't really put a foot wrong when given his chance and still young. Keep as depth at worst.
7. Lochie Gollant - should play defence for the rest of the year in SANFL to see if he could be a depth piece there. Not an AFL forward.
8. Lochie Scholl - one of our few expendable players who has trade currency. Doesn't have the body to compete at AFL level and isn't a damaging player. See what we can get for him.
9. Ned McHenry - dear god no.
10. Patrick Parnell - think the kid has some talent but too small.
11. Sam Berry - Need to purge our list of players who aren't clean handlers and disposers. Might get something for him.
12. Taylor Walker - absolutely. Still one of our best players.
13. Will Hamill - same as Borlase, probably not in our best 22 but steps up when he gets his chance. Keep as very good depth.

Cook, Sholl, Berry, Walker and Hammil without a doubt

I feel we need one break glass in case f emergency. None of Burgess/Himmelberg/Gollant are afl standard, but Himmelberg probably the best fit out of the 3 so he can stay.

But I feel we're cutting too many if that's all, so McHenry gets a lifeline as he is fringe. Others aren't
