Carrazzo in line to lead Carlton

CARLTON midfielder Andrew Carrazzo could cause a boilover in the Carlton captaincy race, with the hard-running midfielder firming as the Blues next on-field leader.

Superstar midfielder Marc Murphy was considered the early favourite to replace Chris Judd, but Carrazzo's standing among his peers has continued to soar this pre-season.

Carrazzo, 29, became a father to triplets late last season and if he can show he can juggle fatherhood with the official leadership duties in the NAB Cup next month the job could be his.

Initial instinct was Murphy, but now Carazzo for me after a bit of thought. A brilliant example to any player joining the club what you can achieve with hard work, however you made it here.

Murph will have his time, but should be thinking of nothing but football this year.

I've heard Sticks talk about Carrots in person three times, and on each occasion what shone through was the respect he demands from all involved with the club. Murph wil retire having been a captain of the CFC, but for now it's Carrots all the way.

Simmo.

Just about the hardest worker of the lot and has been at the club longer than anyone. Romantic choice for me. And that takes nothing away from either Carrots or Murph, each would be a fantastic captain. And at least we have these kinds of options.

But these really are internal matters. I'd imagine each club would have their own criteria for selecting a captain. While most of us would have a rough idea of who the leaders are around the club, only the inner circle would know exactly what they want from a captian and who best fits the bill.

Don't tell Essendon.

Carrazzo.

He is a fantastic public speaker, and often speaks well within the media circles.

He is well respected both internally and throughout the league.

He is an original Carlton supporter who desperatley wanted to be drafted by us initially.

He would take the pressure of captaincy off Murphy, and continue to allow him to develop.

He's a WOG.
