Carrazzo firms to be the new Captain.

Carlton president Stephen Kernahan said yesterday it was exciting to have so many contenders for the position, while conceding Murphy and Carrazzo were likely to fight out the job.
He said once Malthouse made his decision, it would be ratified by the club board.

"Mick came to us and said, 'That's the way I would like to do it, with the three of them in the NAB Cup'," Kernahan said.

"He will make a call to us and the board will ratify it. Murphy and Carrazzo are probably the favourites, but it's exciting for all three of them.
"Carrazzo is the experienced leader and Murph is the up-and-comer. Juddy will be a hard act to follow and could have done it for as long as he wanted, but we have some really strong senior leadership."

May be old news but don't recall seeing it up here.

I think it's really good we seem to have a few options. Carrots, Murph and Simmo are all clearly respected by the playing group and will all be leaders on and off the field, even if only one is officially captain. And of course Juddy will continue to set an example because even if he isn't captain, he remains a champion.

Looking back over the last few weeks, I've noticed a not so subtle increase in the amount of 'Murphy marketing' on behalf of the club. eg. most of the new club membership promotional pics/videos, the release of the new clash Guernsey, his appearance in the new AFL promotional add, family day appearance promotion etc.. Carrots on the other hand seems to have been quiet in the media & promotions of late (the exception being his interviews on intra-club matches). Wondering if this is a new ploy by the club to lessen the load on a Captain (assuming Carrots became Captain) by having someone else other than the Captain do the marketing (maybe after consultation with Judd and Judd saying it's too much for 1 bloke) or Murphy is firming as the new Captain?

Am I reading too much into this?

Carlton opts for one leader after Mick Malthouse dismisses co-captaincy model

CARLTON has ruled out appointing co-captains, with the race for the leadership to start in earnest this weekend.
But Blues coach Mick Malthouse is not a supporter of the concept, which has been swiftly dismissed as an option at Visy Park.

Andrew Carrazzo, Marc Murphy and Kade Simpson are officially in contention to replace Chris Judd, but it has effectively become a two-horse race between Carrazzo and Murphy.
It's believed Malthouse's preference is Carrazzo, but all three will get a turn to lead Carlton during its pre-season campaign, which starts in Sydney on Sunday.

Malthouse shows faith in Nick Duigan as a Carlton leader

NICK Duigan has emerged as a shock contender in the race for the vacant Carlton captaincy role.
The rugged defender has been chosen by coach Mick Malthouse to lead the Blues in their NAB Cup meeting with premiers Sydney on Sunday.
Malthouse said Duigan, 28, had the "real hallmarks of being a terrific captain".

Marc Murphy will captain Carlton in its opening game against Greater Western Sydney, while fellow candidates Andrew Carrazzo and Kade Simpson will get their turns in later matches.
