This has been Murdoch's business model for a long time - they don't own obscure bottom feeding shit rags for nothing.

Everything they do is about narrative creation and control. And media concentration in Australia means that eventually they completely control all media narrative including the ABC (particularly with the number of plants currently in the ABC).
