May be hopeium again but my reading of the Dean Warren interview was that experienced assistant coaches from successful clubs are well in the frame.

Good sign for Tudor and Simpson.

Just finished listening and that's the same vibe I got too. Sounds like a reasonably lengthy (thorough and robust) process but would be great to hear that one of those two announced as senior coach late September/early October.

I swear halfway through the interview he almost said "thorough and robust" but changed it to "vigorous" at the last second.

I reckon even if we got Roos this would still apply.
That's true but we could have paid his wages with extra memberships and sponsors.Thats a pretty good starting point.Craig's or Tudor's wages will be straight out of the pocket.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure once they put the selection panel together they said from the start assistant coaches would be considered, they had changed their line on experienced coaches only, probably due to Roos and Eade pulling out. I really do think Angus thought he would get Roos, or failing that, Eade, so that was the company line at the time.

Untried assistant... it's got a nice ring to it.:p... Just hope it's a good'n.

wonder if we're looking at bassett. has a very good record in the sanf - both winning wise and getting the best out of his players.

Given the boardroom atmosphere at the moment, I'm thinkin' rigourous would be safer.

FWIW, I think Tudor's resume is much more appealing to us than Simpson's. I think Simpson is a nice candidate but I don't think his experience is as well rounded. Never coached outside Victoria to start with and basically walked into the Hawks when they were already a fearsome unit. Whereas Tudor has coached in a non-footy state in Sydney, has experience at multiple clubs , and has actually been the lead man when he coached the Geelong VFL side. Has also seen Lyon and Longmire at the top of their games.

Just think he has a more well-rounded experience base that prepares him for some of the pretty unique challenges that come with coaching Brisbane.

I like your reasoning and my feeling is the bookies (and yourself) might be right.

I wouldnt mind seeing Bassett given a go though, for purely selfish reasons. One of my best sledges at the footy was

"Bassett, you are nothing but a short legged dog"

Got a laugh out of Lynchy who he was playing on.

Could the timing of late Sept early Oct be there to still have Clarkson in the "frame"? i.e. after Hawthorn's unsuccessful season of not winning the GF.

Yeah, I agree. I'll be a little more confident if Tudor gets the job.

That said, someone earlier cautioned us against assuming that we'll go for the candidate with the best CV, and on reflection I think that's good advice. Chris Scott was a surprise choice as Cats coach, for example, but something about him struck them as a perfect fit, and that decision could not possibly have gone better.

Nonetheless, I will find it very hard to understand what Neil Craig could bring that would override the plain fact that he has been very unsuccessful in two roles at different clubs for the last few years.

Wallsy nailed what has disappointed me about the whole thing.

People can trot out the "he had 5 years" cliche but ultimately I agree with Walls that the board never lived up to their obligations to provide Voss with the resources he needed and consequently set him up to fail.
