Looks like Angus's arrogant comments saying that if members weren't happy about the board then they can vote us out have come back to bite him on the ass. Nothing to do with the members though but this is even better!

I reckon it has everything to do with the Members - the word has been out on the board since the botched sacking of Voss, these guys are responding to sentiment.

Hi Dylan12

My comments related to the Gerard Wheatley article and the stupidity of it. To suggest in the article that somehow a board would time a press conference so as to coincide with the Essendon mess so that it would some how be hidden from media scrutiny is an insult to his own profession!

Further to label the timing of the announcement as cowardice because it was at a time when the Essendon mess was being reported is just utter stupidity. Based his logic we would never be able to make an announcement as from my view of things the Essendon media monopoly is going to exist for many months to come.

But that aside based on your comments about the so called "Voss knifers" ...

1. If a coach (forget that it is Voss) said to you I don't think I am the man to take the club to the next level would you re-appoint him!

2. If that coach has had five years and been paid $750,000 per year you would go ahead and give him a further five years!

It is not necessary for any board member to explain why Voss was not given a further 2 years. Voss himself tells you the reasons in black and white ... I suggests you watch the press conference in full!

To quote Leigh Matthews this week "there isn't exactly a queue lining up to be president of the lions"!

With all due respect when it comes to making a sound judgement not based on emotion I am glad you are not in that queue!

I think I will stick with one of Voss's close friends of 15 years to make a call if he should continue.

But then again as the president said .. you can vote him out .. my guess is you would be doing him a favor.

Sure we all love our footy heros .. but that mean they stay coach forever?

Great posting Tonylion. Keep it up. Voice of reason in this thread :)

In the wash-up of all this Angus hoopla today one thing changed for me today.

I have held that view that we have Roos signed sealed and just about delivered and that they were waiting for x period of time before announcing it.
But this #spill occurred today because "angus botched the Paul Roos signing". If that's what board members are accusing each other of then there really is no hope under the current management for us to get him. We really need to move this board on!

Do you have an article to back that up? Otherwise I struggle to that happening without more speculation being built up today.

Bert Man it's history now but I was highlighting the 'policy on the run' that preceded in the days after they sacked voss. in the interview he said that they would be announcing a coach this Friday, only to, a few days later change their tune to 'a process would be announced.' One thing I have to admit though is that I never expected my comment that a change needed to happen perhaps at board/admin level to happen so quickly. ;)

Article in question.

Wrong, wrong, wrong!!

We are waiting on the commencement of consideration of the appointment of a committee to give full( not to mention, thorough and robust) deliberation of a suitable business plan to examine the .....process.

Do some research will ya!;)
Oops sorry.

More denials of interest from the Roos camp.

PAUL Roos' manager is emphatic he will not coach next year, as attention turns to a replacement if James Hird is banned by the AFL.

He was this week again linked to Brisbane when its president, Angus Johnson, sounded confident about hiring the 2005 Sydney premiership coach. Roos' manager, Nick Fordham, yesterday said people should start believing his client's statement that he wouldn't coach.

"Nothing has changed. You should listen to what Roosy has said in the past. Going on what Roosy has said, he's been pretty clear on it," he said.

14/8/13 Chairman Angus Johnson said the decision to find a new coach to lead the Lions beyond 2013 had not been a rash one.

“We’ve gone through a pretty thorough process, and that includes identifying potential candidates, and there’s more than one,” Mr Johnson said.

“Within the next few days we’ll be outlining process, timeframes and going into more detail.

The Brisbane Lions will announce the Club's senior coach appointment process next week.

The process will include the formation of a sub-committee that will make a recommendation to the Club's Board.

There is no deadline for the recommendation to be made.

The Club has a number of high-quality potential candidates but will not comment further on the specifics out of respect to the process and privacy of individuals.
21/8/13 Having heard from Paul Williams and Mick Power following the meeting, the Board has resolved that it is in the best interests of the Club to continue on its current course in identifying and appointing a new Senior Coach, and to stand on its recent record
23/8/13 As Chairman of the Lions, I’ll be communicating to our members next week, our future plans for the Club.
Is someone putting their own job security ahead of the job at hand?
How's that ****ing coaching appointment coming along?
That process you were talking about, how's that going. You were going to tell us all about it remember?
Number of candidates better than Voss you said. Have you settled on a process, let alone a committee, let alone some candidates, let alone a replacement?
For now, this weekend should be all about football, and no doubt people are sick of talking politics
You let us worry about the football. In the meantime you owe us an explanation of what you are doing in regard to securing us a quality coach. You best be working on that rather than politicking.

Paul roos is not gonna be our coach so in my opinion mark williams is the next best thing. should go after him

I'm holding onto a faint flicker of hope that Roos might change his mind, but I agree that Williams is the best of the other candidates.

Worsfold has to be a chance and a decent option if he doesn't stay at West Coast. It would a fresh approach and he has taken a team to a Premiership.

I made reference to him in another thread...Poor guy looks sick as......supposedly going through marriage breakup, so not sure he'd be at his best....also heard that he would probably want to go to melb as thats where his family is.

I've put a line through him for now.

Yeah that makes sense. I wasn't aware of all his issues.

Lethal has curiously not totally discounted the possibility of Vossy coming back on board. Now that would be an interesting scenario...one that might make a lot of sense given the f*^*ing shambles that has occured. If Lethal was in place as Football Director, I could certainly buy into Vossy's return, especially given that I didn't want him gone in the first place!

Williams and Power were both very much a part of the decision to not renew Vossy's contract. I won't be holding my breath for a return.

Williams was asked about it on SEN and did actually entertain the question seemingly which surprised me. I think you'd have to have pretty much every other coach on the open market say they didn't want the job first.

Brisbane Lions 'next to no chance' of signing Paul Roos: Leigh Matthews
Leigh Matthews, the headline candidate in a push for change on the Brisbane board, says the Brisbane Lions have next to no chance of securing Paul Roos as coach, and has left the door slightly ajar for Michael Voss to be reinstated.

Matthews and current directors Mick Power and Paul Williams have formed a ticket to take control of the board and had vowed to make a revised approach to Roos, the man on the top of the wish lists of the Lions and Melbourne. Roos maintains he has no interest in coaching "at this particular time".

The Lions are expected to tempt Roos with a multi-million dollar deal, but Matthews does not like their chances of signing the Swans' 2005 premiership coach. "Paul Roos is the top of everyone's list but I think the chances of Paul Roos coaching Brisbane are about nil," he said bluntly on Saturday.

Former Hawthorn coach and premiership player Peter Schwab is heading up the Lions' coaching selection panel. Voss' recent sacking has been the catalyst for the board-room ructions, but Matthews' intriguingly left open the possibility the rival ticket would entertain reappointing his premiership skipper Voss.

Asked on 3AW if there was any chance Voss could be reappointed, Matthews said: "That's something you might be asking . . . but I think it's done, I think it's a done thing and you have to move on, that's probably the bottom line".

Johnson has said Power and Williams were unhappy because they believed he had "botched" the initial approach to Roos.

Interesting developments, but still can't help but think without knowing the facts that we did indeed botch procuring the services of Roos...such a bloody mess and so bloody unnecessary.
