Punt Rd ‘17? ‘19?
AFL Club
Richmond
It pains me to even contemplate that at some point in the future the great man will hang up those well worn boots and pass the baton onto the chosen one, however that time is drawing closer, Fortunately we now have a few contenders, allow me to review with Luxbet approximates...

100-1 Cleve Hughes , I remain hopeful that he could still develop into a solid AFL player, however lacks the tricks to follow in the great mans footsteps

75-1 Gourdis, Honestly haven't seen anything of this youngster other than his junior tapes where he looked to have some special qualities, pace and hands...12 months from now will be a better guide

50-1 Riewoldt, reports to hand are that he has yet to fill out his boyish frame, meaning he's more likely to be a HFF at this point...has a great footy brain, heck, we can't give him the No 12 :D

33-1 Putt, This fella is my smoky , moves well for a big fella, kicks well, not sure whether he has the burning desire, liked what I heard yesterday..WATCH

20-1 Vickery, I can only go on his Blue diamond formline in juniors where everyone seemed to rate him...in his time so far at Punt Rd he hasn't dissapointed..WATCH betting

9-2 Poster Boy , anyone that takes 80 more marks than the 2nd best in the U18 comp has something special to offer..Liked what i heard yesterday, has a frame that will fill out and the questionable kicking has No 12 just written all over the kid...there's talk he may very well be in NAB squad next sunday, cant wait to see that:thumbsu:

There you have it..JP as short price fav to step into the shoes of the great man...Luxbet, get to work framing a market now

did you have to bring this up? well any way hopefully either one of our guys step up to fill the role of richo or a new recruit just bleeds talent. but who ever gets it will have big shoes to fill.

Richo has another 5 years. No need to even think about this for another 3 years. He has a minimum of 2 years on the wing and the remaining years as a danger forward coming off the bench. Richo has played 15 years for finals and they are finally close. He'll be loving the chance of playing finals and he'll hang around for as long as possible and the club will want him to hang around for as long as he wants

Don't forget that Post had an extra year's-worth of development, as one of the over-age TAC cup players this year. Mightn't seem like much, but one year's development at a junior level is quite significant. Which could attest for some of his marks in 2008.
I for one would definitely not be taking his odds, anyway.

yeah when richo retires at the end of 2013, maybe Post will get his number

Richo will play longer than Captain Blood, and will easily surpass Tucks record!!
I could live with a 40 year old Richo standing in the goal square each week!!

While I may not agree that Post will be the next Richo (who could be, to be honest!), have a look at Patrick Dangerfield's development this year in the TAC as a 19 year old. Far less impressive than Post yet taken as a top 10 pick in 07. Also look at Matt De Boer who many rated as a first round draft pick last year yet chose to sit out the year to finish year 12 and subsequently drop to the Rookie draft. Sure, he's a little older, but you can only play against the competition you have and all credit to him for excelling so far.

Since Richo will never retire no point in this thread.
But for arguments sake its too hard to tell how any of those players will turn out since only Hughes and Jack have played. Jack imo will be a CHF until Post or someone else come on.

i dont even want to think about it.
as ive said numerous times

wont happen

Richo realistically still has 36-42 years of Amazing footy left
than after that probably 42-50 years of more outstanding footy
than roughly 20-68 years of Excellent footy
than 30-50 years of great footy

Then he'll stand in the goal square and play solid football for another 5 or 6 decades. By which time us mere mortals will have passed on. Although, like in government, you have to plan not just for the present, but for as many generations down the track as is possible. There's a guy, yet to be born, who will meet this girl, alos yet to be born, who will have a cracker of a night on the booze, culminating in...well...you know...
9 and a half months down the track, the huge baby will be born. Matthew, they will call him; Matthew Rickardson. Then, 18 years down the track, the young Tasmanian will be drafted to Richmond. At 196cm and 95Kg, he's hot property. In what the great man will announce to be his last year, young Rickardson will have a break out season. Then, the 280 year old will hand his jumper down to young Matthew, the new CHF who doesn't mind spraying his teammates. What's all the fuss about?
