Why does everyone hate BT

Do you think he knows he's the fool?

Lets just say that his 'style' is orchestrated to appeal to a younger demographic....My 8 year old grandson for example....Who thinks BT is fun.

He's not meant to be taken seriously.

What a totally intellectually dishonest way of framing the question in the OP. There's a difference between being enthusiastic, and being a hyperbolic over the top moron with a terrible understanding of the modern game, a poor knowledge of players, especially players from interstate teams, and being prone to histrionics at the drop of a hat. He's an embarrassment, from his poor sense of humour, his poor game sense, and his utterly nonsensical ranting. He's unprofessional and just flat-out irritating.

I don't mind BT. Its Wayne Carey who I can't stand.

I can understand that some commentators will have favourites, whilst others will despise other teams but you expect all to be professional regardless. I continually notice Wayne Carey's hatred for the Collingwood FC in every broadcast I watch. Yesterday was as evident as ever and just one example was the Blair free kick where he actually disputed it, because the crowd wasn't happy with the call, and BT actually put him in his place and said, its clear as day light the free kick is there regardless of what the crowd thought of it. He also seems to go quieter whenever Collingwood is up and about, as was the case yesterday, and I have noticed in the past this season too.

It clearly isn't hard to dislike someone of his character, but he sure makes it easy with his commentating during Collingwood games.

He goes over the top in trying to inject intensity into a game. Having said that I'd listen to BT over Dwayne in a heartbeat.

Thus Carey warms the cockles of many a heart!

Let's see shall we:
  • Can't get players names right
  • Makes the game all about him
  • Picks a team each game an barracks for them
  • Doesn't describe what is happening with the side he isn't barracking for
  • Has the most annoying "catch phrases" in the commentating game and feels the need to inject them even if not warranted
And that is without really thinking about the OP

Try being a Bombers fan anytime Dermie speaks.

I liked him on Triple M when he would play off the endearing yobbo personas of Brayshaw, Lyon, Frawley et al, but in being recruited to Ch7 it resulted in him buying into his own hype as a random wacky dude, the same way Cometti did after his idiosyncrasies were brought to the fore.

would appreciate if he stopped shouting at me the whole time.

This x 1000. All the constant shouting and loud crap that he delivers, It gets to you. As far as what he says, it doesn't really matter as much. If you mute the coverage, you don't hear the crowd noise and atmosphere.

It’s a good thing to know your football. In fact, it is so much better than being ignorant, but unfortunately, many fans allow the general abrasiveness of their personality to shine through more that they are ever prepared to admit. It's an emotional game and the know it all fan lives for confrontation, they know more than the players, coaches or commentators. Or so they think. You will almost certainly sit next to someone like this at the game several times each year, if you're lucky they are the stay at home type of fan screaming at the TV, calling the Umpire a dickhead, telling the coach he's an idiot and the players are morons. The commentators are all fools and this fan honestly believes he could do a better job of calling the game. Well golly gee, whoa, if you don't mind, i'm not sure how many of us on here have played 140 games and kicked 527 goals in our career! Taylor is what you call a "colour" commentator, like Rex Hunt before him he will be open to more criticism than most.

That's why people don't like him, he stands out from the crowd (on C7)

How dumb would you have to be to make something as generic as "Boy Oh Boy" and "Wowee" your catch phrases. Should be banished from all broadcasting immediately

Yeh but Rex had a less abrasive personality and was not as up himself as BT -- the man is categorically a tool of the highest order WOWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

You can't complain about AFL commentators once you listen to Greg Alexander commentate NRL on Fox. He makes no effort to hide his seething hatred for Parramatta.

I know its hard to believe but the NRL commentators are worse than the AFL ones - and our commentary is world beating in its shitfulness

PREACH BROTHER PREACH

He is ok sometimes but he often goes over the top for no reason and becomes irritating. Also when he seems to keep pumping up one guy for the whole game its annoying. I'd still rather him than Dermott though.
