Why does everyone hate BT

Lets just say that his 'style' is orchestrated to appeal to a younger demographic....My 8 year old grandson for example....Who thinks BT is fun.

He's not meant to be taken seriously.
My question is why are channel 7 instructing certain 'styles' or giving directives...its almost as if they think their broadcast teams are wwe commentators.

Clear from some of the comments in this thread that some people think the only way to be entertained while watching a football game is to have an imbecile shout inanities at you throughout the evening... off-topic ramblings about anything but the play (because I'm oh-so-interested in the hairstyles of members of the crowd, or which direction security guards are facing) are decidedly not "enthusiastic", and the constant failed attempts at humour are painful to sit through. His seeming lack of knowledge about more than a handful of players (who thus need to be incessantly referenced even when they've done nothing noteworthy), or indeed how the sport actually works, only adds to the direness of it all...

Why does everyone hate bt or anyone who brings enthusiasm.

From that wce game vs melbourne game the commentators there were so BORING. Seriously did anyone else fall asleep with that commentary team?

Even thought BT may barrack for a team every now and then it is better then a boring dwayne (or whoever commentated the wce vs melbourne game).

Seriously Brian Taylor doesn't put me to sleep he is actually enthusiastic.
If it's a good game - it's a good game. I don't need commentators to entertain me, and I certainly don't need them annoying me.
If it's a shite game, it's a shite game. I don't need commentators insulting my intelligence and trying to convince me it's otherwise.
If networks think commentators are keeping people tuned in during boring games then they are kidding themselves.

Then again, maybe those folk whom aren't intelligent enough to have their intelligence insulted think otherwise.

I can take him or leave him as a commentator, probably the latter.

What I do miss is his chairing Fox Footy Teams.
Unlike Dermie he did not make it all about himself and actually allowed the panelists to be the focus of the show.
Can't watch it now.

I find him entertaining . I heard him say on radio in his younger days he would hit the disco and try and corral one from the herd

i'd feel sorrier for hamnity if everyone had the same opinion on every thing...

It's like climate change - teaching the controversy does not give validity to a point of view that has no basis in fact. The fact is he is one of the worst callers in AFL history

I'ld rather Basil. at least he remembers most the players names

BT is ok if it's an 85 point blow out against two teams with a wide gap of where they are and your avoiding turning the t.v. off to talk to loved ones.

Basil mistakes Lindsay Thomas for Daniel Wells when Wells is not even playing - and that is not the worst of his gaffes

his commentary doesnt enhance the spectacle - BT tries to BE the spectacle.
Haven't read the whole thread, but this. Tries to hard to be a catchphrase generator rather than commentate the damn game. And when he thinks he has something (which he doesn't), he runs it into the ground (oh boy, wowee and Jake 'the package' just two examples). Can't stand him

BT is the most obvious symptom of a wider AFL commentary problem where every garden variety football event has to be inflated to hysterical levels by the commentary team.

Watch any other major world sport, and for the commentators to raise their level of excitement to baseline BT level, something incredibly rare and brilliant would have to happen.

BT gets out of bed at 8/10 and has very little room to move once something actually interesting happens.

fascinating. It's the No 1 thing I look for in a commentator.

I like BT as a personality in the game, but I find his commentating unbearable most of the time.

I don't mind flair, and I especially love Rex Hunt, but BT does it for the lowest common denominator. Banter towards the other commentators, nicknames for the players and enthusiasm that is almost always completely misaligned with the flow of the game.

The game is exciting enough as a spectacle, why do we need inauthentic hysteria in the background?

The role of the commentator is to explain to the viewer what they are not necessarily aware of. That's all.
