Why Hall when you can do better?

Instead of Barry Hall, who is over the hill and cost a fortune, when you could draft someone like James Podsiadly who is a ready made forward that you would get 5 years out of.
He can mark, Kick it 60m, and is a genuine star of the VFL. He is a class above, and should be able to cope at the highest level.

He would be a perfect fit for the doggies. They can still draft a young forward, however if they think theyre window is open, he would be a perfect proposition.

Thoughts?

The club has been there done that and had him to training.

He is to slow.

Why didn't we pick up Nick Sautner when he was dominating the VFL and the right age? Simple really, players like him go beautifully on VFL standard defenders but get butchered against the more athletic, stronger AFL standard defenders.

It's a massive step up to AFL, and sure if Podsiadly had have been given the chance to develop at an AFL club from an early age then he could've been a player to kick a couple of goals a game, maybe better. But he hasn't and is now too far behind and is no spring chicken either.

Your thread title and OP suggest you think that Pods is "better" than Hall.

Hmmmm

Pods at 27 is better than hall over 31 and finished.

Hall has one year left in him.

Pods has 5. His hands and pack marking is better than Hall.

So he is a better fit than a one year prospect that will cost the doggies a fortune. IMO.

Hall is stronger, smarter and more nimble. Podsiadly has trained at a couple of clubs in the past and fallen short. Yes his VFL career is peaking but I would expect that to happen at his age and experience in that league. At AFL standard he would go back to rookie level.

Aaron Edwards come out of the VFL.

Yes he is younger but the results of his dominance at that level have proven him to be a handy forward.

Pods isnt as slow as people think.

He would suprise a few i reckon.

He wouldnt cost anything. late draft pick, 50k a year.... Not worth a punt???

Edwards was originally picked up by the Eagles and was delisted and then played in the VFL for Frankston. Difference was that he had already been on an AFL list so he knows what is expected of him even if he didn't do that at West Coast.

On Pods it is too late now to draft him, if we were going to draft him it would've been about 3 or 4 years ago.

IMO you are totally wrong. Hall is always going to be older than Pods and he is always going to be a better footballer despite the age difference. Hall is also a better mark than Pods (averaged in the top few in the AFL for contested marks per game this season).

Of course Hall would cost the Bulldogs or any club more than Pods and that is because he is that much greater.

Let's not forget either, that Hall is an AFL premiership captain.

To even compare the two really shows your lack of knowledge on the game.

We don't need another handy forward, we need a key position forward like Hall. Podsiadly might only be a handy forward but I also think he would be too slow for AFL footy.

Hall is always going to be older than Pods

How can you be sure? - we're about to announce a new assistant coach:

And Aaron Edwards has kicked 32 goals in 30 games, and he dominated the VFL when he was 20 years old, with still plenty of time to develop his game to suit the AFL. Yes he had a fantastic finish to the season in 2007 and was unlucky this year to break down with injury but his output so far hasn't been anything spectacular, yet.

Sure Podsiadly would cost us nothing, but in the last draft before GC comes into the picture a late pick would be better spent on a speculative athletic type, or a raw bottom age player.

Barry Hall will always be a better player than Pods. Agreed. im not that stupid.

Im not discounting Hall's achievements.

But he is done. I have a lot of Sydney mates that agree.

Pods has a couple of year. therefore he is better fit than hall.

Hall wont be a key forward for the dogs. he wont be able to carry the forward line like many believe he would. you cant wind the clock back.

Pods is capable of Kicking 40 - 50 goals a season. especially if he gets good service. he gets double teamed every week in the VFL and still dominates.

Tom Lonergan is playing in a GF this week, and Pods is twice the forward he is.

He was a mighty fine player at WCE. They didn't delist him because he wasn't up to AFL standard. Any person in the know will tell you he had off-field troubles.

Comparing Edwards to Pods is silly anyway. Edwards kicked 100 goals at VFL level and is only average at AFL level. Edwards is a lot better than Pods.

Agree that we should have got him 3-4 years ago if he was gonna make it. Drafting him now is just silly.

You have no idea.

How can you not class Hall as a key forward? Pods wouldn't be a key forward at AFL level.

And to suggest that Pods is twice the player as Lonergan... seriously, you have no idea.

Who would you prefer at Essendon?

An aging Matthew Lloyd or Pods?

Is that you Pods?!? :p

I reckon Podsiadly could be the best draft in a long time..
u dont have to give anything for him.
and his not on big money
Worth a shot for any club..

Yeah that.. Or we could just get Hall with no risks involved whilst we have a tilt at the flag next year??

I think table tennis is Pods trying to drum up some support!

He hasn't been good enough for AFL the last 5 years, so what has changed now?

Are you serious no risks with hall nah none at all just hope he doesnt snap and get rubbed out for the year. I recon pods would be worth consideration why not really besides Hall who is still contracted and would cost us a lot for trade. Who else is there lets get serious pav, brown etc are out so take a risk thats what wins you premierships
