I dont remember StKilda being unpopular in the eighties or nineties.

In fact I used to like to see them do well because of thier underdog status.

Trevor Barker used to appeal to all supporters
Locket,Loewe,Harvey,Burke,Winmar were not players I hated.

Has the new regime got under people skin?

Is it Thomas??,Butters??, the priority draft picks they got over a number of years??. Reiwoldt?

Im not bagging them or sticking up for them just curious as to why they are copping it so bad when they could be in the eight next week.

Fear and envy.

Yes, very enviable record. :D

Keep hallucinating though, it accords with the Saints' image.

They think they are good when they are not. That could have something to do with it.

The Emperor is wearing no clothes.

People like to take the ******** out of Thomas and Butters but I haven't noticed the saints become unpopular in the general public.
They're generally disliked on BF due to a trio of posters.

It's not St Kilda per say, it's mainly the attitude and lip from some of their supporters. The club itself is no real issue, a player or 2 might be seen as dipsticks, the coach can come across as a bit of a ********er, and the president ? Well let's just say all clubs have the same issues from all 3 of those stakeholders. It's the supporters attitudes that can really ******** people off.

Its because they are the new bandwagon club...

Like Essendon of the 90's... now fair-weather supporters are just going for them, i personally like clubs who has a strong supporter base of loyal and commited fans not tag alongs.

Oh and because they are arrogant.

For the same reason the Eagles are becoming unpopular at the moment - when successful the ****************s come out of the woodwork. Happens to every club.

Not at all.

The perception is amongst opposition supporters - particularly those of struggling and non-struggling Victorian teams - that the Saints acquired their awesome squad through a sustained ineptitude on the field in the early 00's.

Whether the aforementioned acquisition of an elite playing list is true or not, perception's tend to form apparent realities.

I think when your side is going well you reckon 'great' when the Swannies, Brissie, Sainters & Doggies come up as in the mid-late 90s. Being a Tiger, we were on the up and it was fab seing these other sides going well. But when they keep going and your mob starts on the slide there's a heap of jealousy.....like we're a better team than them. Think the Saints needed to raid the comp similar to Brisbane. This year a lot of big 4 sides are on downers and would be jealous - even Tiges who would not have had the same expectations of Saints, but definitely the Pies, Bombers & Blues.

Outside of WA, I'd confidently say there has never been a time when the Eagles were considered popular.

People may have recognised them as having good footballers and playing well, but don't equate that with popularity.

Just one more point, I can remember running to the Essendon & Moorabbin stations (the latter with guys with pickets swinging). In contrast I strolled to Vic Park and the Carlton trams. So while the people want the underdogs to go well, once they lose that status and people remember the past, well..............

I honestly don't hate St Kilda. But perhaps I should, as they have issued us 2 shellackings in important matches in the last 12 months.

I think it is the constant cliched ramblings of several supporters on here as to how the Sainters would be the future of the game and were shoe-ins for future flags that has gotten a few people annoyed.

I don't hate them. But I will admit that there are sides I'd rather see win a flag than them if Sydney can't, namely Geelong & Melbourne to be precise.

And that "Let's get anotrher one, just like the other one Wooo-hooo" chant after goals from their Cheer Squad  ; can we please kill the people doing this!

I always wondered what the hell they were saying then... I only ever picked up the "Wooo-hooo" part :p
Yeah, that is kinda lame.

You must be kidding yourself?

I can remember back to 1995, when thousands of Richmond supporters appeared from all parts of the globe - all to support ''brownlow boy'' wayne campbell (ha!) and co as they danced a merry way to a prelim final. Even packed the MCG to the rafters the week before as they beat Essendon in a bruising encounter. First finals win in years.

In 1996, they were gone...

Travel into the future to 2001 - and they all appeared again! I was baffled. The song was sung - all three words of it ''yellow and black'' - as they went through the season proper fairly successfully. Once again - made it to a prelim... then fizzled out the following year because it wasnt 'cool' to support losers. Was the bandwagon leaving Punt Rd yet again?

Now in 2005 - Vladimir even goes to the extent of removing Richmond from 'blockbuster' status, allowing Essendon the chance to play them once.

Surely if they had the stable and strong supporter base we'd be playing you twice in a year? It isnt our problem - we have the crowds of 'real' supporters that still attend games even though we know we wont make the finals. Hmmm...

Saints unpopularity coincides with pinching Hamill from Carlton.
Doubt it. 14 other clubs applauded that - in anycase Big John told him to ******** off "I will send you to some crap club like St Kilda"

Because they suck and none of their deluded fans can accept this

They are a bunch of arrogant ****************s, from the players to the coach to the supporters

Who gives a ******** about draft picks and stuff? I just laugh at they think they will save them and that is what making each year of failure by them more enjoyable

Those here that fall in that line have one problem many here on BF...

When things go wrong, they do not have the desire for the club to address the problem.

Only if it done slowly to maximise their suffering

You also failed to mention the woman that screams "go sainterssss after every goal.

I'm yet to speak to a fellow saints supporter that doesn't feel the same way.
