Why is Bob Murphy so loved and respected by all?

It is just a media hype. We are so oversaturated with outlets such as a dedicated football channel, social media sites, and other sources contributing to the 24 hour news cycle that items need to be blown up disproportionally to catch the consumer's attention.

Is Murphy the greatest (or even great) football? Probably not.
Is Murphy the greatest journalist/writer/columnist (or even sports journalist/writer/columnist)? Probably not.
Is Murphy the person most committed in action to social equity (or even in the AFL)? Probably not.
Does Murphy have a monopoly on loyalty (even through the bulldogs history)? Probably not.

The values people are saying make up the public aura of Murphy are not exclusively his, nor can he remotely be considered within the very best examples of those values.
The AFL and various media outlets have invested in him and he has become a beacon to lazy journalists looking to add human experience to the overblown spectacle of Australian Rules games.

TL;DR: Good bloke in a sea of shit campaigners who is inoffensive and you would maybe let him date your sister.
Cheers. I rarely see any AFL commercial media, get my footy news from AFL.com, and when I read the West it's mostly Eagles and dockers. This thread has reminded me why I avoid the commercial media with all their hype and made up shit.

Because he loves comparing football to war and talking about 'replacing soldiers with another soldier'. It shows that he's grounded and realises that football is a true life and death pursuit like real war.
There is an early team photo (around the time of the second gulf war) he is in wearing a 'no war' t shirt- that got me interested
Then he started writing interesting articles
Then I found out that his all time favourite album is Exile on Main Street

could the answer to the thread title be that the Vic media just need a footballer to love and gush over? They lost Judd to retirement, Watson to the drugs scandal, Buddy to Sydney, Ablett to Gold Coast, and Goodes to retirement. With the bulldogs getting into the spotlight and Murphys near-career ending injury it was easy for him to become the darling of the AFL.

Dont think Acker likes Bob too much. Told Acker to pull his media in and now is doing more in that area than Acker.

First of all, being disliked by Aker is a point in Bobs favour.

Media is a very vague term. Aker was being controversial for it's own sake, and was a distraction and a pain in the ass. Now contrast that with the type of media Bob does, where he is insightful in his answers to questions instead of robotic, and his articles actually offer new perspectives and insights into being an AFL footballer. His views are a refreshing change to the typical non-answers you get from your more blokey footballers.

Next time think for 5 seconda before just throwing a blanket over it and calling Bob a hypocrite.

Great player and seems to be an alright bloke. There's something about him though that I personally don't like and I wouldn't walk down the end of my driveway to have a beer with him. That's just me though.
The media love fest though, absolutely sickens me. Especially on 360. "Oh Bob..."

It's already been summed up by others, yet derailed by some of the least intelligent people this forum has to offer.

He has been a heart & soul Bulldog who put the proverbial club on his own back at one of its lowest points ever. Everyone followed him & it led to a premiership only a couple of years later. It also helps he is an elite player.

Even though he couldn't play, there is nothing more he would have wanted than to see us win the flag. In no way selfish, yet that's the tag he gets from stupid flogs. Outside noises don't mean much as Bulldog fans know & respect what he has done, what he does & what he will do.

So hes the ONLY player playing now who hasnt had those negatives in their footballing life?

Bloke got injured rd3 last year then proceeded to make the grand final win all about him. He didnt have to get up and hold the cup up, he didnt have to wear the medal around his neck. One of the most selfish things ive seen in football and nearly my entire life.

Silly comment.

Luke Beveridge called him up to the dias. It wasn't Murphy's idea.

Can you work at understanding that? Take your time...
