Tom Mitchell currently holds the record at 54, and only 11 occasions of 50+ have been recorded.

Connor Rozee recently notched up 18 disposals in the first quarter which is somewhat of a feat, but to continue that for 4 quarters in the modern era is not sustainable. There isn't a single player in the competition that could sustain that intensity and be in the right place at the right time for the entirety of the game.

Anyone that starts with 18 disposals is going to attract more attention in subsequent quarters.
No coach is going to be stupid enough play a player that hard for an individual accolade.

Even a start of 20 disposals would then require 13,13, and 14 which is why we will never see this happen in our lifetime.

I would not immediately discount a 60 disposal game. Tasmania team joining in a few years, and possibly a 20th team shortly after leaves the door wide open for some really poor defensive football sides in the coming years.

Of course we will, only a matter of time.

There will be some inside contested pig with poor disposal come along and coaches won't even try to stop him.

40+ has been done multiple times in AFLW's short history, with games two-thirds the length of a typical men's match.

Drop the number of on-field players to 16-a-side for the AFL (which is easy to imagine happening for a variety of reasons), and you'd definitely get players racking up 60 disposals every now and then.
