Wicketkeepers that Bowl

mate. this is junior cricket we are talking about here. (U/14s)

most of the blokes playing didnt give a shit what they did & were angry because their dad made them come anyway. and the majority ones who did care were shit, and if they werent, then they got a bowl. by the time U/16s rolled around, we had a full time keeper & i was no longer captain, but i still opened the bowling & batted @ 4, as well as being the relief keeper. go figure.

my god i carried that side.

Western Park White. We were the 2nd side @ our club in U/14s.

I remember Rod Marsh sending down an over in an innings where everyone in the side had a bowl.

Scorecard for that game here

Who kept while he was bowling?
Looking at the scores, maybe we didn't even need a keeper on that pitch...

Also, I can't believe a guy named Julien Wiener opened the batting for Australia. Dark days.

you must be ponting/gilchrist/warne/mcgrath/lillee rolled into one ;)
i reckon your opening partner was your best mate and relieved your keeping duties and bowl his full quota of overs too ;)

you need to take up golf mate. cricket is a team game.

i'm surprised your team mates didn't abondoned you as you would've no doubt had 4 or 5 guys who just fielded at fine leg etc for the day and batted at 7 or lower and only if needed.
:thumbsu:
yeah, we had 6 players on a good week. if i made less than 20 with the bat we would be bowled out for under 20. then if i didnt take wickets we would only finish a game with couple we lost out right nearly ever week and then after i finished bowling the only other half respectable bowler was the keeper so i then took over the keeping duties while he bowled.

one day we had a dog fielding at mid off. needless to say im the only player out of the team who still plays cricket.

If my memory serves me correctly, Graham Yallop took over the keepers gloves.

I was thinking about this further the other day, and I remember both Alan Border and Viv Richards substituting behind the stumps when Wayne Phillips and Jeff Dujon were injured during the course of an innings.

I think Viv may have bagged a caught behind, and AB helped in a run out while they had the gloves on.

In fact, heres a youtube clip of Vivi with the gloves on, and it was AB he snagged too :D

Does Ricky Ponting count? I'm sure I remember him keeping in a ODI when Gilly was injured.
He also picked up the scalp of Michael Vaughan in the 05 Ashes. :p

Dhoni can also bowl. :D

it isnt uncommon in juniors for a bloke to open the batting, open the bowling then keep once his spell is finished.

We had that kid, the one destined to be a State level at least superstar, who opened with the new pill, fielded first slip and kept when he finished his spell. Batted three.

I was the complete opposite, usually fine leg to fine leg, a couple overs if the game had been won and batted in the double digits.

got a mention earlier but Tim Zoehrer (sp) was a very handy leggie. in fact had the selectors not hated him he would have kept either (or both) Healy and Warney out of the side for a long time.

I agree with your comment on keeping Healy out, his wicket keeping was outstanding, but he was never up to test standard as a spinner
