Interested to see whether or not both Geelong supporters and neutrals alike.. think Geelong are a premiership contender. Last year they were stopped by injuries, despite having a better list than 2022 according to Geelong supporters.. so it'll be interesting to see how far they go this year.

Can't write them off. If they can finish 5th/6th and stay in Victoria they can go deep in September.

9 wins in the bank with 5 guaranteed wins to come. Just need to get in the right position for a good finals run

It seems like for some Tigers supporters, Geelong’s success is like an STD that won’t stop itching. Sooner or later you’ll realise it’s there for life. Best you find a way to manage that itch.

They are certain to win it. Amazing for the rest of the competition
We're in a rebuild year, so winning the flag would be unprecedented given no team has won the flag in a rebuild year before.
I know Chris Scott doesn't like the word 'rebuild' because he sees it as an excuse for failure, but when you look at how many young players we're integrating into the team, it fits the definition of a rebuild.

Isaac smith retiring and trading Esava Ratugolea is a rebuild? What other list changes were there from 2023-2024? Still have 21 players from the 2022 flag

Holmes becoming a star.
Clark, Conway, Knevitt, Dempsey, Neale, Bowes, Bruhn, O Henry and Mullin all becoming regulars in the side.
Humphries made his debut last night and looks like another player you can add to that list.

Scott being coach in and of itself means you aren’t rebuilding

Nah

We are miles off it

Geelong find themselves in the middle of the finals pack. The stand-out is obviously the Swans, and I think it's fair to say that Carlton are the next best performed team, but are probably closer to the trailing pack than they are to Sydney.

So there is an opportunity for the Cats to pull off a September surprise. They'd ideally like to not meet the Swans, especially in Sydney, or have the Swans have an off day somewhere along the line and be eliminated. I think this would be a common feeling amongst all teams.

From the 2022 grand final: Selwood and Smith retired. Bews and Stanley in the ressies. Hawkins and Cam Guthrie's injuries saved both from being dropped. Rohan and Tuohy are borderline best 22. Duncan a bit similar depending on whether he has a good or bad day. Blicavs is just hanging on.

So there's 10 veterans that were extremely important and are now retired, not in the best 22 or are very peripheral. A few will retire end of this season and a few more will be displaced from the best 22 in 2025.

Bowes, Bruhn, O.Henry, Dempsey, Clark, Mullin, Conway, Neale and soon to be Humpries/Knevitt are getting plenty of games or are locked into the best 23. Mannagh looks like he'll be getting more games soon.

Yeah but we don't totally suck yet, so it's not a rebuild.

In all seriousness, as you say we're implementing a large contingent of fresh faces into the side, all of whom (sans Bowes) are under 24, to go with Holmes & SDK who were already there.

Whether that's a rebuild or not, I'm not sure...but it doesn't sound like a side going all out to win right now either.

I'd guess you'd call it rebuilding on the run, as we're trying to get games into the kids while still remaining competitive in the majority of matches.

You played 13 players with 100+ games experience and 8 of those 150+.

You had a grand total of 5 players with less than 50 games experience. Teams that had less <50 game players than you this weekend:
  • Sydney
  • Collingwood

So if that's a rebuild, 16 clubs are in a rebuild.

Do you think you can constantly contend without getting top 10 picks and having a enough draft capital to trade in good players?

And before you say you have Hawkins was an expected top 5 pick. So you actually have never done it yet.

You really have a bee in your bonnet over Hawkins don’t you? It’s bordering on obsession.
