This overreaction is going to cost us our damn quality of life!
It's not the damn virus that's going to make our lives harder to live, it's the damn panic itself!
Since DECEMBER 2019:
Total infected: 134,560
Dead: 4,972
BUT!
Take away CHINA - and Italy + Iran (rare anomalies) THEN,
The stats worldwide since DECEMBER 2019 becomes:
Total infected (not dead, infected): 28,575
Dead: 357
TO PUT THINGS INTO PERSPECTIVE:
The population of residents in St Kilda is 28,141
The capacity on a 1969 typical 747 airliner is 416 (with a rare max load of 660)
We are losing our shit (and things that we enjoy) over mere nothingness!
I'm sorry, but you are so so wrong. I won't repeat my post from earlier in this thread in full, but it's simple:
Italy and Iran are not rare anomalies, they are countries where the government was too slow to respond and the virus spread so quickly that their health systems were overrun. The reason more people are dying there is because there are not enough ventilators or intensive care beds to cope with those who need ventilating...so as crass as this sounds, people are drowning in their own infections sitting in a general ward because nothing was done in time in those countries to slow down the rate of contagion.
I know it's fashionable to ignore experts (see Brexit), but come on, listen to the health professionals - they don't think we're going far enough.
