Ok, it's only round 5, but jeez, it will take some beating. :thumbsu:

Safe to say it wil be one heck of a mark that beats it:thumbsu:

The best ones are always where the guy gets up a little earlier, and gets a purchase on the other guy's shoulders and sits there, like this one....the kind of marks that Capper (ha) and Trevor Barker used to take.

There's just that split-second of thrill watching it, wondering if they'll be able to stay up long enough for the ball to arrive.

ive always felt hitting the deck definately gives ya more points in big hangers.

if u hit the ground on your feet still it detracts from how damn good some other are!

That is one hell of a mark - I heard it discussed on the radio - but over here obviously wasn't able to get footage of it so cheers for posting!

Our players have been incorrectly denied goal of the year honours in the past (Pearce v West Coast and Motlop v Brisbane) so don't hold your breathe about a Port player ever claiming one of those awards no matter how impressive the deed.

My favourite of all time might be this Brett Allison one.

Irrelevant to this thread, but fun to watch

I recorded the Fox Sports HD replay of the game... and they somehow ****ing managed to excise this mark from their broadcast. The countdown time in the third quarter is 4:39 and then it jumps to 3:19.

The IQ always tells you if there was a reception cutout which caused a recording to partially fail, and that didn't happen. So Foxtel actually broadcast the game minus the 1:20 that encompassed that mark. WTF?

Know the feeling...
Aaron Davey's goal v Brisbane at the GABBA when he hacked it out of the air from 30m.
Adem Yze's mark in the goal square v Geelong at Skilled.
Yze's checkside from 50m on the boundary (carbon copy of Motlop's... yet both goals where beaten by a Lloyd back heal 2m out).

Over sponsorship and 'fan' text voting in the past has meant the best mark or goal never wins, and the fact that they no longer announce it at the Grand Final, Brownlow Medal or any other special occassion so people notice, means that it's lost it value. IIRC, when Newton won it in '07 (?) they only announced it through a small media release a week or two after the Grand Final.

Since beating the hawks, i have seen more credit given to port in the last 2 days than i have during the entire course of my stay on BF.

This feels strange and I cannot entirely process what is occurring yet.

Bloody great mark by Wolverine though.

You are right (I recall the magnificent marks and goals you mention above), but it probably means our respective clubs with relatively lower market share and supporter bases will always be up against it when competing for media awards voted for by the football public. That really isn't right if you want the best to win. The Lloyd back heal is a classic example of the wrong player winning the award on the back of an imbalanced market share.
