Williamstown 18.16.124 defeated Geelong 7.13.55.
Amongst the goals were Akermanis 5, Everitt 3, Jones 3, Hooper 1, Rose 1.
Amongst the best were Jones, Akermanis, Everitt, Tiller.
Aker should be back next week, Everitt is much better up forward than down back, Jones will be a top player and Hooper and Rose are definitely worth considering for our senior list next season.

Jones and Everitt among the best is good news.
Can anyone give more details on Jones' game and why he was listed as Willi's best? Is he ready for an AFL debut?

Sounds like Aker had a picnic!
OUT: Stack (inj)
IN: Aker

I see my man Faulks was also named second best. Kid can play. Said it 3 or 4 times now, he is Dale Morris Jnr.

As for Jones, he could definitely step into that 2nd tall fwd role at AFL level if need be. He is such a hard worker, he could handle the defensive side of fwd role for sure. He still has some filling out to do but hes not going to be a Murphy, Grant, Shaggy type player who never fills out. Has a really good frame and will be a Tommy Williams size player in time.

i went to the game today

Liam Jones played a well deserved BOG...the thing that impressed me most about his game was his smart leads and strong hands..he knows how to take a grab..he attacked every contest at a million miles an hour and if he didnt get the ball he made sure he tackled someone to cause the turnover.

Acker...he was quiet early and just before half time kicked a vintage Acker goal on the fun after dodging a few players on the boundary...he then came to the bench and had much delight in telling all his teamates on the interchange how good it was. In the 3rd qtr he kicked 3 goals...1 nice gather and snap and the other 2 were kicked from about 45m out...set shots...umpire didn't move on either occasion as they sailed through for goals...great to watch. In the last qtr he kicked another set shot goal from about 50 out....not long after Acker gathered a loose ball about 60m out and ignored numerous loose players...he wen't on to nearly kick it out on the full...young Andrew Hooper gave him a mouthfull...made me cringe a little. It could be enough to get Acker back next week...but he never got tagged today at all and had it a little easy at times in my opinion.

Everitt...Played ruck nearly all day...had to battle hard against much taller opponents in Simpson, West and Vardy...he kicked 3 lucky and opportunistic goals from spoils etc but he was just in the right place at the right time...looked very comfortable playing at that level and always used the ball well.

Eagleton...played ok on the wing...but never really got a chance to get his running game going...will get the call up for Darwin though i'd say

Hill... played forward and couldn't manage a goal...won't get back in this year after what i saw today...lazy efforts...poor at tackling...poor one handed attempts at marking and just looks like he's never going at full tilt...really frustrating player!!!!!

I was impressed with Tiller today on the backline...didn't notice him at first with the ink on the arm but was great down back with Mulligan and Boumann...we def have some backman in reserve. Boumann copped a baking at qtr time for being lazy but really stood up after that.

Hooper was quiet today...but always goes 100% at a contest...i couldnt believe how many times they kick high to him in a one on one contest...but he has a crack and could def come into the lineup soon as a small forward...i think him and Jones will def fixture in our forward setup at some stages in 2011.

Little is all class aswell...kicked all his goals in 1st half

that's about all i can remember for now.

Howard played seniors and looked ok when he went near the ball...at a guess he would've only played 50%game time....made a great tackle on the wing and looks great when he kicks the ball.

Moles was quiet...copped a big hit early...i think the Geelong blokes were trying to clean him up...i sensed he might've been disliked down the catters way maybe.

Callan...played his role down back as per usual and was good...he is a very good VFL player and just needs some luck and he could find himself in the dogs line up...did come off the ground late and might've had a slight cork or something.

Butane,

I have not seen a minute of this kid and can't help but get excited about all the talk.

Can you fill me im as to what sort of a player you see him becoming and the reasons why he hasn't been given a call up?

Seeing as though we have given Stack a go and you say that he is ahead of Grant in terms of development, it would seem onlt logical that he would be next in line???

Just going on the little that I've seen him play I'd say it'd be hard for him and Hall playing in the same team. Both play the same role ie: lead to the right spots/crash packs.

For me it's his frame(potential went fully built) and his classic style. By that I mean the way he reads the game and can use his body as well as lead and mark. Really looks to have all the attributes to make it as a competitive forward.

We drafted him at a very young age and he was still completing high school last year. For players off his ilk they take a few years to really be competitive at AFL level and this is really his first season as a full time footballer.

He'll get a few games along side Hall to learn the craft next year and be ready to take over from then.

I rated him more then Grant earlier in the year because I couldn't see how Grant would fit in to the AFL game. He's very unorthodox, and that's fine, even an advantage but it's very difficult to predict what sort of a career players like Grant will have. With Jones you can almost see where he'll be at every 6 month block.....of course with the right attitude.

From reports his attitude is very good.

Just add a little bit more:

* Strong through the core.
* Hits the contest hard with courage, not afraid to split open a pack.
* Keeps his feet
* Good repeat efforts.

While he is still raw, but as you rightly put he has all the tools to make you think he will make a very handy player.

Peter German added in this mornings paper that he thought Liam had already passed thru the development stage and was now at a point where he is pushing for senior selection. Very promising considering he has only been in the system for 1/2 a season.

Noticed that Jones was named on the bench for the Willy seniors on friday as well as the reserves, maybe it was a wake up call to him.

Has stamped Josh Hill his own papers now?
So much promise and potential, would be a bonus to have him firing leading into the finals. He should be dominating the VFL and its sounds like he has dropped his head last few weeks. Is he contracted for next year?
