Good game, but needs to do it when we're not beating a bottom 4 side by 95 points. Still hasn't really shown up against a good side since Round 1.

Against teams currently in the top 8:

Brisbane - 16 disposals 3.0
Collingwood - 13 disposals no scores
Bulldogs - 7 disposals 0.2
St Kilda - 8 disposals 2.2
Essendon - 14 disposals 2.3

On average - 11.6 disposals 1.4 goals per game.

He's never going to be a high possession getter - and he's certainly no wet weather specialist. He has his faults, but he's doing pretty well in his job right now. Easy to look at the score yesterday and say he needs to do it against better sides, but he did his damage early in the game when it was there to be won. Much better than coasting to a win and seeing him get a few cheap goals late in the last quarter.

I thought he was crucial in the win against the Saints.
Seems to be growing into his role within our team. We desperately need more of the magic he displayed on Saturday in big games against top-line opponents. He's a much more viable option than Fantasia, who will never be able to apply the sort of defensive pressure and tackling intensity that is now expected and required of our forward line.

Looking at average goal output for each of our forwards this year,
Finlayson, Marshall and Dixon have each averaged around 2 goals per game (give or take a little).
Rioli and SPP around 1.3-1.4 goals per game, and DBJ and McEntee close to 1 goal per game.
We're therefore getting an overall average of 10 goals per game from our 7 forwards.

It would be great if that group can collectively up their output over the rest of this year while continuing to lead the comp for inside 50 tackles and pressure.

I probably should know the answer to this but here goes anyway.

Why did Junior Rioli miss the Geelong game? I cannot find him on the official PAFC injury list but that is not surprising because it is usually two weeks behind.

Is Junior injured, suspended or is it a personal issue?

Touch of Indigestion from all the pies he ate?

Flu and was a late withdrawal.

I haven't liked what he's bought tbh. Lazy and soft but still managed to kick goals by skirting packs. Does the bare minimum.
Disagree – he puts plenty of time and energy into blocking for his teammates, creating space for our talls, and pressuring D50 exits. Certainly hasn't been perfect and has room for improvement, but he's doing more than the bare minimum IMO.

If nothing else, raptalia liking your post is a fairly reliable indicator that you're wrong, anyway.

I think the small forward role is harshly judged across the comp tbh it can be feast or famine in terms of attacking chances so as long as other metrics eg. blocking & front half pressure are met it's all part of it.

McEntee's blocking and forward pressure is pretty impressive when you see isolated footage as well.

People on this site would have Charlie Cameron, Pickett, Rankine etc. dropped just for going a few quarters without a goal though so that's the audience.

He certainly had a period of down games earlier in the year but I think he's been pretty consistent since then.

The thing about this team currently is that you're going to end up with some forwards having quieter games and it doesn't affect their ability to win games because someone invariably pops up and takes the lead. Last week Dixon was quiet but it didn't hurt us because Finny and Todd played well.

We're getting an even contribution across the year and that's the sign of a good team. Not everyone is a superstar every week and they don't need to be. I have no doubt that Rioli will turn it on when finals roll around.

The other thing too is, having to buy into the team, the game plan, knowledge of strengths and weaknesses of team mates, connection with coaches ... and visa-versa. Then take into account how long he had been out of the game, along with any lazy tendencies he had picked up from WCE as they declined.

People here were literally dumping him after his first quarter of game one! Fair dinkum! This takes time, and you can see him improving with each game. Yes, we have all seen a few of his flaws, but players like Farrell, DBJ, Jones, Mac'N'cheese, et-al, have all been persisted with and are paying back in spades. Even Finlayson has taken time to get to the point where he has really gelled with the team.

I have no doubt that Junior will too.

Junior will miss the Carlton clash due to a Darwin trip for paying tribute to the anniversary of his father's passing.

Was at least glad he was able to play this week after missing the Bombers game, wish all the best to him and look forward to him coming back for our Collingwood clash.

This particularly reason isn't really related to luck, but has missed quite a few games this year due to unfortunate reasons. Hopefully can get a run it in the lead up to finals. Super important.

Explains recent absence.
Would be difficult to deal with.
Hope he copes ok, and comes back better than ever.

His blocking is unbelievable, watch the replays
