Best result we could have hoped for
Nope.

Best result we all hoped for was a fine, given results earlier this year for similar actions.

But downgrading the penalty to one week based on low impact rather than medium impact is what we will accept as fair.

AFL counsel arguing tonight that slap had the potential to cause a broken jaw is a double down on their idiocy.

That he is free to play against Geelong is a just outcome. My anger at Murphy for flopping remains.

The afl were never letting him off without some sort of suspension. So, 1 week was the best we were ever going to get.

Although I still think if Murphy doesn't flop, playing for a free (which he totally deserved, and I have no problem with him playing for), then he probably doesnt cop a game.

I can at least live with 1. A far more sensible result, than the ridiculous 2.

Its still frustrating to me though that in game we will call that a player ducked or faked it. Yet when there is clear video evidence that the slap was miniscule and it was a clear play for a free, that we aren't honest with that and call it what it was.

Ah well, hopefully we beat the Crows and stay injury free, ready for a huge tilt at Geelong.

Why is a "low impact" hit something that requires a punishment anyway, and where do you draw the line?

Such a strange sport this is. You can open hand slap someone on the ear and get banned for a week, but jumping into the middle of someone's back, causing actual harm with your knee is just part of the game.

There was brief mention of the medical report on Murphy, no bruising, no attention required at the time of the incident, no effect on his ability to play out the game. It was a dive, pure and simple but no-one in the media will just come out and say it.I agree, a fine was all it deserved, and if it was Daicos with the Brownlow at risk, that’s all it would have got.
