Worst buys of the season

There is a clear distinction between good dreamteamers with badluck and poor dreamteamers with terrible decisions. eg. a terrible decision would be to pick up campbell brown or ricky petterd, whereas an unlucky pickup would be a david hille or a liam anthony.

If Petterd actually got himself on the park (which he's managed to do every week this year), I saw no reason why he wouldn't improve this year. He's improved on previous numbers, but he's still not in the range that I expected of him before the season. I thought he had the capabilities and role in the Melbourne side to average 75-80, however he has hovered around the 60-65 mark for most of the season.

It was a risk, and it hasn't come off for some. I don't think it's necessarily a bad pick. That being said, if he was playing from Round 1, I probably would have just went with Jack Grimes instead.

Ricky Petterd's pre-season dreamteam scores - 24, 46, 71, 18.

They don't show much promise. The only reason i could think anyone would pick him up is because they adored him a couple of years ago when he was one of the rookies of the season and they decided to repay the faith. Also if he potentially did have his groundbreaking 3rd season he was classed as a backman and a good mid priced player in the back line like Jarryn Geary has shown only needs to average 80 to be a precious commodity.

Even though there were limited options in the backline under 300g that were worth picking i don't think you can choose a player based on a 'gut-feeling' or from a biased melbourne supporters view. The player has to back your decision up with some solid preseason scores usually. Perhaps Ricky Petterd wasn't a terrible decision but it definetly wasn't a decision a more accomplished experienced DT'er would make.

Having said that i had one shocker pickup this year and i regret it ever so much. It has cost me about 30 ppg and about 150grand. The worst bit is that this player is still in my team. He hasn't lost value, he just hasn't produced any half decent scores and he plays in the midfield where 90-110 is imperitive. At least he has kept his spot. This is why im not ranked top 5000 this year oh and the added bad luck but i cant blame that. Ablett will soon fill his void however.

Oh yeh and I forgot about Bock, Raines, Lucas and Skippy.

EDIT: And NG Brown, gee i have a lot of crap players now that i've checked my team...

Harsh on Brown much?

sure he missed 2 weeks with injury - but he is a top 10 averaging forward - hardly a dud

Travis Cloke on the other hand - i had to choose you over Davey didn't I?? You and your stupid pre-season junk time scoring suckered me in

I was so close to putting Travis Cloke in my team. So close.

But then I was close to putting Lockyer in, too.

Guess they even each other out. I also had Aaron Davey in there for a long time after watching him in the Aboriginal All Stars match and liking his form. Cloke averaged 90 odd in the NAB Cup, and Davey around 65, but look at them now.

Geeze I've had a few.

Cloke
Hentschell
Butler
Spangler
Anthony
Raines

Still got Hentschell and Raines who I can't afford to burn trades on. Dumped Butler for Zaha, Anthony for Beams and Cloke for Medhurst - who was then a late withdrawl injured leaving me with 2 zeroes in the forwards last week and probably another this week. :(

Troy Simmonds

... although, i never would've owned Angus Graham if it wasn't for Simmonds. Simmonds/Graham was great strategy because if Simmo misses, Angus plays. never would've thought he'd reach 241k by rd9

How about starting with these guys:
1. Chris Tarrant (Freo) $179,900 (-$132,100)
3. Lance Franklin (Haw) $312,300 (-$115,700)
2. Troy Simmonds (Rich) $268,400 (-$102,500)
4. Barry Hall (Syd) $254,200 (-$101,400)
5. Brett Jones (WC) $210,100 (-$101,400)
6. Matthew Bate (Melb) $254,000 (-$100,100)
7. Luke Hodge (Haw) $330,000 (-$98,800)
8. Scott Stevens (Adel) $222,600 (-$98,700)
9. Tom Logan (PA) $233,400 (-$91,200)
10. Campbell Brown (Haw) $211,600 (-$90,500)

Anyone who's had an injured player without loosing money (namely the lucky pricks with Harvey) can suck a fat one. It's apart of the game, we all have to deal with it.

IMO you're more unlucky if you have to wait for the form of fallen premiums to come back.

:(

Ziebell instead would have made a world of difference, even Sidebottom! Another week of no FWD emg's and now Krakouer gone. Chappy and Higgins better play tonight.

Yep, choosing Hentschel over Ziebell was probably my biggest mistake of the season.

I'm surprised at how few people got sucked in by Kerr, he was set to get more protection from his teammates and the umpires. He was supposed to learn to shake off a tag. He supposedly had a good preseason. Delivers shithouse scores. Also I traded Malceksi out last week, if he has a ripper this week it's gonna really piss me off.

For me they've been Daniel Kerr, who was nothing short of absolutely atrocious. I thought he would've learnt to cope with the tag this year, not so and now out with a groin. Traded out for Coughlan

Nick Malceksi, stinking it up scores 40's and 50's on a regular basis. He's been terrible. Now not playing which is a good thing with his b/e of 90 odd. Trading him out for Grimes this week.

Honourable mentions to Kane Cornes and Boomer Harvey.

What about you?

Eski will be back this week with a bang after getting into great form in the Ressies. I'm thinking 80-90 from him.
