Re: Worst game we've played since '07

Sweet, we get to play the Cats on the rebound, at Skilled. I'll bring the lube. Save a baked potato for me.

Re: Worst game we've played since '07

Wow okay, was just saying you lost to a pretty decent team. Was more of a compliment than anything.

But don't mind me. Enjoy the trolls! :thumbsu:

Don't take it too seriously, some people like to drop their bundle pretty hard whenever we lose around here.

Keep it up.

Re: Worst game we've played since '07

I know we were far from full strength and there were other factors also, but the Saints were without their most important player and kept us scoreless in the 2nd half. I hope those few here who have been getting ahead of themselves now realise there are 4 teams that can win the silverware this year and we're only one of 'em.
Absolutely, at last some reality, maybe 5 teams.

Hardly dropping a bundle there captain...just pointing out that Armitage's meaningless 'more wins over the last 38 games' stat lines up nicely with the equally meaningless 10 match winning streak in '04.

Re: Worst game we've played since '07

Full credit to the Saints, they played a much smarter second half. But this was far from our worst since 07. Collingwood game in 08 ftw.

Didn't read your post, and wasn't aimed at you specifically.

But it is a bit of a trend.

Re: Worst game we've played since '07

Not a bad loss in my eyes. Seems to me the boys just know that certain home and away games are not worth winning because it can be so costly for the rest of a season. We already have enough to contend with on the injury front. Even so we've come out with a few more injuries.

Mackie remains a sore point. Takes marks and does not turn and spot up targets quickly enough. Watching Pods tonight was like watching Mooney, held onto all night and not one free from the umps. The free against Hunt was just wrong. Not an excuse for the loss though. Just a couple of thoughts.

Re: Worst game we've played since '07

Carlton game was way worse.

We seemed to have their measure in the second, and then just fell apart after that. Didn't hit targets and didn't make good decisions. Definitely missed Chapman at half forward and Kelly at half back.

+1

Lots of outs wasn't good but it was our lack of discipline that killed us in the end, couple that with St Kildas mega flood and we had no chance of winning tonight.

Re: Worst game we've played since '07

A few thoughts:-

Hope next time it doesn't rain (not blaming the conditions, as it rained GF day as well), because I want to see us play in front of a packed crowd, where both teams are injury-free, and at the top of their powers, without a wet ball or slippery ground. Imagine how good that would be (remember how good Rd 14 skill-wise was (except for the result. LOL).

It wasn't the umpires who cost us. We weren't taking marks in the forward line. We had to scrap for all our goals. Can't believe that we didn't even goal in the second half. You know, ONLY St. Kilda could do that against us.

Ryan Gamble won't play for us again. He has failed up forward, he is always an emergency, and doesn't come in as a last minute replacement. I think Bomber has lost faith in him, and Gamble does nothing to change his mind. When he finally did come in tonight, he was thrashed by Schneider. He isn't accurate up forward, and can't play up back, so we should trade Gamble, while we can still get something (even a fourth round draft pick) for him.

Speaking of Adam Schneider, what a player! I have rated him even when he was at Sydney, and have felt that he often gets his two or three goals, because teams don't rate him enough, so he capitalises on a lesser defender being on him.

The umpiring was very poor, especially in the third quarter. It isn't why we lost, but I get annoyed how umpires slow the flow of games for free kicks for tiny things. They should let the game flow, and only pay major decisions. Also, too many 50's. Umpires, spend more time protecting players (like Steve Johnson's treatment) and less time trying to make the game about you. No-one cares about who you are, so step back, as we see the truly talented (as oppossed to wanna-bes who are umpiring because they weren't good enough to play the game). We pay to see players, not no-names blowing a whistle.

I think that Geelong struggle against teams with a couple of small forwards. Carlton had Betts, Yarran and co. St. Kilda have Schneider and the new boy who debuted tonight. Geelong need to draft one or two small defenders, who can shut down the opposition crumbers.

It was a good win by St. Kilda, but you need to do that to us when it counts. In four finals the two teams have met (in 1961, 2001, 2008 and 2009, Geelong have won all four meetings). St. Kilda need to do it to us when it counts. Maybe you can, and maybe you can't. Time will tell.

Finally, we're not dead yet. This is just one loss. We will bounce back, and when we do, look out St. Kilda and everyone else.

Yes, I do realise that good sir. Just saying we've been very much the equals of you over the last year and a half. And a loss like this isn't the end of the world. But this game ain't gonna mean jack (lol Steven) come September.

Anyways boys, cheers and good luck for the rest of the season!

Fair play mate. Good luck and hopefully both our teams will have a fair crack at each other in September.

Re: Worst game we've played since '07

We've had plenty of injuries over the last few years but what we haven't really had is injuries to midfielders. Missing Corey in the first rotation and more importantly missing Chappy and Kel from the second rotation is huge in those conditions and against an equally powerful midfield to ours. It's depth in quality that we have over St Kilda.

Anyway get the ruler and red pen out and draw a line under this one.

Don't be so sure. We will have some more out with injury/suspension.
Will be a tough month for us, but hopefully we'll bounce back at the business end.

With all due respect, the point you are missing is that the only way you could claim to be our close to our equal of late is if you won at least 1 flag. That's what counts. We learned that the hard way in 2008.
Nobody gives a shit how many games you win unless you win the whole thing in September. All the rest is interesting preparation and practice.
But having said that, congratulations on a hard-fought win!

Agreed.

Second half we didn't win enough first time ball in the centre, and when we had it, bar Enright, we couldn't make the correct decisions coming out of the back half and couldn't generate flow. And I pity being a forward with the extra defenders and the ball delivery tonight. Once we were down at 3/4 time it was always going to be difficult the way they strangle things.

Not a good night, but far from the end of the world. We'll be right there when it counts most.

Re: Worst game we've played since '07

we always play like crap after a break. While our second half was the worst I have seen us dish up in a long time. I think the loss is a timely reminder for the team that they need to be at their very best to win the flag this year. Last night was far from that. Thankfully we still have half a season to put things in order.

Re: Worst game we've played since '07

Over all it was a pretty terrible game (not just because we lost). I thought The cats played pretty decent in wet conditions too? Missing chappy did really hurt, even hawkins in ruck woulda been great. Cant wait to have ottens and corey back. Just hope we can pull it together when the time comes.
