:) fair dinkum, the new team needs to employ $20note as he knows all about Melbourne even though he lives in Adelaide.

Well its true not many of the state leagues are actively trying to help the A-league. The FFA introduced small sided games to improve the quality of player, the NSW and VIC leagues went against it. Aligning VPL teams to a a-league club and removing the bad eggs at the same time would solve two problems at once.:):)

I bet the VPL clubs are most happy to align themselves with the Melbourne teams.
Some have already been screwed, having lost status of being in the top comp, the A-league came in and basically took players for free.
Thank you sir may I have another.

The vpl has 12 clubs, Melbourne has 1 A league franchise, how would you go about it? secondly what makes you think that Victory wants to allign itself with vpl clubs? I honestly dont see the value in it, the vpl begins this weekend, nothing is stopping the Victory coaching staff from turning up to games throughout the winter and checking out the talent for themselves.

I'll definitely be supporting them.

I have developed a dislike for Victory through their one-dimensional style of play and the sheer NFI of some of their supporters (Not any people on here, just the bandwagoners).

Hopefully we can draw a reasonable supporter base and have some early on-field success which would be an enormous boost.

If playing an attacking style of football with a host of attack minded players is one-dimensional then give me one-dimensional football any day of the week. Only Queensland can compete on that front.

I still can't see the point of having a second Melbourne team but they will be entering the league at some point and it would be a disaster for the league if they had no support so hopefully some people will get behind them.

point?

The whole idea is getting everyone working towards the same goal

Just split them down the middle and the two a-league clubs and players can visit those clubs and that way they and juniors have someone to associate with, if you leave it as is you're missing out on supporters.

Fine if you happen to dislike certain supporters but a 'one dimensional' style of play? Yeah if we were playing one up front or the old Wimbledon 'hoof it and hope' ok maybe....but we are as attacking as any team you will ever see in the A-League. Two grand finals in 4 years and the two highest scorers in HAL history speak volumes.

Straight down the middle doesn't do it for me.

I don't expect Manchester United Mk II but I'm a bit of a Craig Foster :D as in I'd like to see some width because it frustrates me Victory continually win games playing the same predictable style.

I reckon I can support both of them.

Love football that much that I'll probably go every week.

Can see alot of people joining the Melbourne Heart as an alternative to getting locked out of Victory games once the SSS is built. That's one way I reckon Heart can capitalise on Victory's popularity and build a niche for themselves.

So you want us to abandon our attractive game plan which has worked extremely well, just so we can claim to have tactical variation?

It'll be interesting. If the new Melbourne side plays Sydney or Adelaide, then I'd want them to win. But I can also see a big rivalry building between Victory and 'Hearts', which would meant that I'd take great pleasure in seeing Victory win the local derby.

Whatever happens though, my passion for Victory will never change. The only unknown is how I will feel about the new team. Will I have a soft spot, will I hate them, or will I just not care?

The Melbourne Derby will be the best thing that will happen to the league. The Dome will be full for all three of the derbys.
I dont think ill have a soft spot for them.
I only have one soft spot in the league and thats Wellington.

They were warned for years to de-ethnicise themselves and never heeded the warnings short of cosmetic naming changes.

Serves them right for what happened to them.

As for the poll, I voted #2 - I'm by no means ever going to bandwagon jump the Victory like so many have (Not a knock on those who were fans from inception) but do track their results and would prefer to see them win over the interstate sides.

But I would be more likely to throw my support behind the 2nd side, so long as they come up with a different name than 'Heart'.

That's to the extent that I can tolerate the crap standard of the Average League of course.

Well, OK then. I'm actually a little disappointed as with Heart they were throwing up something different, you know. Still, 'City' doesn't sound so bad. Now that I've said this they'll opt for neither. Thanks for providing the relevant information.

My heart is with the North End forever, and seeing another team get introduced, will just cause heat between two sides' fans and there will be brawls and everything because the fan base of Melbourne Victory is mostly teens.

edited for accuracy.

True that, I am wog myself but there's nothing more than I hate when I see kids my age, dressed up tough and acting cool like they are top shit board the train and when someone scores a goal, they'll be like "Who was that scored?"
