Would you take Jobe Watson's Brownlow away?

If the decision was yours to make. Would you take away Watson's Brownlow after ASADAs investigation?

...and mitchell too lol

Have a look at the amount of funding that has gone into different nations sport programs. This funding goes to, quite transparently, legal programs.

It's why Great Britain has increased it's athletic output in recent years, because they have a system where I believe the lottery profits from the government go directly towards Olympic funding.

Australia more than likely has doping programs, some probably starting at the AIS, but you're deluded if you think the reason we hit 'above our weight' is simply drugs.

drugs decide the medals.

but australia is a leasure nation with good weather. sport for the masses is a C20 creation. this mirrored the rise of the nation. other old europe and n america have a mature culture in alternative arts v sport. no probs. we channel our time into sport.

rode the sheeps back? yeah, and rode the sport maturity arc also. we lead the curve, early adopters.

If AOD9604 (reportedly not a PED while under the S0 section of the WADA Prohibited List catch-all) is the worst our game has seen. With a likelihood of stronger controls because of it and the club (reportedly) fully and openly co-operating with the authorities I reckon many sporting codes would be jealous of the image given what it could have been.

There will be those that believe things are being swept under the carpet. None of us will know what has happened behind closed doors however I doubt anything major could have been swept under the carpet given the amount of ex and delisted players/parties involved.

I would prefer this didn't happen but I think the image none the worse for Jobe's honesty.

The EFC has done the AFL a favor and alerted it to the doping practices that may occur.
thank you to the EFC for doing the AFL a great service. You have brought great credit to the AFL and will be rewarded with extra draft picks and salary cap concessions.

I dont think either Mitch or Cotchin would want the medal awarded like that.
Just record 2012 as - not awarded and leave it at that.

In all honesty, I dont think he will be stripped of the medal. It will be pinned on the club and not the players.

Medal should be stripped and guilty players immediately stood down from playing.

Agree about Mitchell not wanting the award, but no way Jobe should be able to keep it.

This Brownlow is forever tainted, there is alot of Lance Armstrong about Watson's denial that he did nothing wrong, even after these admissions. Like when Lance said it was okay because he lost a testi and stuff he was taking just balanced him out.

People crap on about the MRP killing the game, if these players are allowed to continue to play this game will be forever compromised. Every other supporter should be outraged that these players can still play. In any other "professional" sport around the globe this would not be the case.

The AFL. A professional sport run by total amateurs.

This is a bizarre situation! We have a player admitting to using a banned substance? And he is playing? Andy won't be happy, he would have to had got out of his smoking jacket to address this tonight.

Having said that there must be so much more to this story we don't know. The AFL must be confident that Essendon are going to be cleared.

AOD is not the only drug they have to look into and it would seem there is a lot of "intel" on Danks so they are obliged to dig and dig. It's their job.
If the ASADA coercive powers make it through parliament this week I expect Dank to be hauled in for interviews in the near future - that may delay the investigation into Essendon for a while. We might find out which Thymosin players at Essendon took.

But seriously, he definitely is and was good enough to win a Brownlow medal. So if he loses it or not, it's a shame either way, as the bloke is going to cop it quite hard in social media & onfield over the coming weeks. Absolute ****ing scum the doctors and people that knew what was ACTUALLY being administered to the players.

The whole thing will explode if that occurs.

Sounds good to me. :D

lol I still think it's humorous that so many people truly believe the players had no clue

People are so naive.

Jobe didn't admit to taking a banned substance...there is still conjecture over if AOD is actually illegal or not. We know for certain it is not a PED.

This makes me feel even more confident because Jobe wouldn't have said this unless there was word from ASADA that there isn't an issue.

Positive news Essendon fans!
You don't know for certain whether it is performance enhancing or not when injected as there haven't been clinical trials on it as an injected drug.

Absolutely........just ask the Swans and GWS why they get the COLA. It has little to do with that actual cost of living and a lot to do with having successful Sydney teams to break into the Sydney market with a population of 5 million ppl. No one wants to follow a loser so the AFL have to ensure that the Sydney clubs are more than competitive.

Wow, a thread about Jobe Watson admitting to taking a banned substance and a Hawthorn supporter brings up the Swans and its Cost of living allowance!
