Kvitova winning a Grass court title is interesting.

Would love for her to win one last GS, especially after that knife attack.

I would say she is a Dark Horse. Can't look past Rybakina or Sabelenka.

Don’t get the love for Sabelenka on grass was awful last week too. For me Rybakina, Muchova (she’s a mile better on grass despite making the French final). If I were to throw a roughie up Anastasia Potapova isn’t the worst shout it’s possibly a year early though. Going to really depend on draws someone like Kvitova is as likely to lose r1 as making a semi who on earth knows. Alexandrova and Vekic will be nightmare draws for anyone in the top 4-5.

Rybakina has pulled out of Eastbourne still feeling affects of virus that saw her pull out of French open. Casts some doubt over Wimbledon now i would say

Not really smart decision one of the few that doesn’t need too many matches going into Wimbledon

The way its setup i think its expected that if your a top player you need to play in a tournament each week, they should make it optional the week before a slam and if you want extra hit ups you put your name down otherwise no.

You cant do much.

Some players will take advantage of it and win a title. Ala Lauren Davis at Hobart this year.

Only if they have no hope in a major lets be real Lauren Davis is lucky to win a round at a major. Eastbourne needs to be a week earlier

yep. thats my point.

Davis lost 1st round at the AO IIRC. Still gets some nice points in the bank

Yes but these tournaments are a farce, just push them forward a few days and you’ll get less walkovers which if you are talking money is important for the WTA if I were sponsoring Eastbourne I’d be beyond annoyed

Only problem with pushing all these tournaments into the week before is having 4 wta and 4 atp tournaments in the same week. You would have 4 diluted fields instead of 2 strong ones in the 2nd week before a slam. Not ideal.

Interested in:

* Bronzettti vs Erika Andreeva. Feel like Erika has been completely lost amongst all the hype for her sister. Rightfully so, but she’s still there and trying to breakthrough. Tough ask against the in-form Bronzetti.

* I’m waiting for Olga Danilovic‘s career to really take off, I think she’s got the potential.

* Zheng has finally accepted that she might need to enter tournaments other than 1000’s and 500’s. Let’s see what she can produce.

* At her best Camila Osorio should probably win this title, but form/injuries have hurt her this year.

* Elina Avanesyan, can she continue her recent run? Sure hope so.

* Another of the tours sister act, Polina Kudermetova is up against Schmiedlova, could be interesting.

* Rakhimova against Aussie qualifier Astra Sharma. Rakhimova seems to be getting better by the month, tough ask. Another Aussie, comeback queen Daria Saville also in this event.

* Can Russian youngster Diana Shnaider make any statements? Starts off against #1 seed.

Sharma beats Rakhimova comfortably, good stuff.

Avanesyan wins in 3, what a battle. It’s pretty hot out there, and I’m not just talking Elina. The moonballing was pretty hilarious, the MP was something else.

Daria Saville just lost 6-4 in the 3rd, man that was tough to watch. Got so many tough calls against her, saved about 3 MP’s with some gutsy play and incredible defending. Then served consecutive DF‘s to lose the match. Blasted a ball over the fence too lol

Sounds like a standard Daria match

Never seen anything like that. Essentially bullying on the tennis court. Now if Zhang wasn’t already in a pretty fragile mental state, the situation might have resolved differently, but still, terrible by Toth.

Currently watching replay of Andreeva vs Bronzetti. 1 set all. Incredibly hot/humid conditions, both players sweating profusely. Erika I maintain is quite talented, I don’t see why she couldn’t hover in that 50-70 range. I just think she needs to be a little more aggressive.

I think clay might be my favourite surface (until I watch the USO swing lol).

Erika won!! Boy she needed that.

She’s an incredible fighter. She defends super well. Like her sister, she has a good BH DTL. I would like to see her more aggressive, stand up in the court a little more and dictate the play. I guess she prefers being a defensive player because she chase anything down, but over time as she gets stronger and more experience, hopefully she goes for her shots a little earlier.

Jen Brady on the comeback trail after being out injured for two years.
Playing in an ITF in Canada this week.
Be able to use her protected ranking for the rest of the year.
Gotta be doubts on how well it will go. She's had the foot problems for much of her career.
