hard to say. photo is definetly from 2004, at first i thought it was a training shot (given that jumper was worn in training that year), but the white shorts, crowd, and venue have thrown me off. i may be very wrong here but that seems to be princes park in the back, or possibly even whitten oval.

out of curiostity where did you find this, might help.
@fifty.au on Instagram, doing a look book of Richo. Didnt have further info. Im just as clueless.

It may be an unsanctioned praccy match that Mero doesn't qualify for FJ.com?

Just seen this photo, was this at training or a praccy game given the crowd in the distance?

That is their 2004 Pre-Season jumpers that they never actually wore in the Wizard Cup.
They played Western Bulldogs then StKilda, wearing their Home jumper both times.
I would expect this is from the rest of that Pre-Season practice matches which were not official games.

It was from when Carlton played Richmond in a practice match and not a Wizard Cup, as you said Mero, at Optus Oval in 2004.

Mad jumper matchup

I'm about to be away from my office/PC for three weeks.
However, I am interested in your thoughts on this new template and plan for the AFLW section of the website.

Pretty solid, though I think I’m thrown off a little by just how long the template is. I think the shoulder panel at the back is about twice as long as it should be, and accordingly the front of the jumper should match up with that length. Also fwiw I’m fairly certain the AFLW has had their differing number font since the comp started. I reckon the league logo is a bit off too but I’d have to find a reference pic which I can’t do while I’m at work. Template is definitely an improvement on the old one though I would say.

I tend to agree.
I've re-sized the 2018 version with the AFLW numbers and revised nab logo

PS AFLW numbers in 2017 were the current AFL font

Looks good. Really emphasises the women’s template cut which is different to the mens. I know you have previously stated you would only be doing home jumpers for AFLW however given it AFLW is the highest level for the womens game and has things like league awards, Grand Finals, milestones etc of a similar nature to the men’s competition, would you consider at least doing away/clash jumpers as well? I can help with collating images. There was not many teams that had a clash jumper in Season 1 (I believe Adelaide was the only team) but come season 2, they started to be introduced.

Also, I have some vector sponsor images for suns sponsors so please let me know if you require them.

Bingo, that’s perfect. Wasn’t aware of that with the inaugural jumper numbers but the more you know I suppose.

Echoing what The Victorian just said, I’d be willing to try and make SVG files of the clash jumper designs for you if that helps with getting them on the site, though since I don’t have Illustrator I wouldn’t be able to throw them onto the template unfortunately. The Indigenous and Pride jumpers might be a struggle though, and I suppose if you can’t get every jumper made it might be a tiny bit counterintuitive to go halfway in terms of designs, but my offer is there if you’d be interested in getting them on the site eventually.

This jumper Bernie Quinlan is wearing is 1981 Brownlow medal winning season. The sponsor matches the one you have. But the yoke in Bernie’s goes through the VFL logo and the FFC is much larger on Bernie’s guernsey.
Fitzroy had many wonderful jumpers but whoever was in charge of them really liked to change them often.

I'll get to these when I get home.

Currently in melbourne for a short family visit

Had a meeting at AFL House this morning

- thoughts that the number of jumpers produced is getting out if hand.

- 2025 are already approved and in various stages if production so reductions will be from 2026

- a push to make Clash jumpers something more like a fashion item. Eg

  • Not happy that the Crows logo has been released
  • will continue to support the site with assistance where they are able. And only after the official release

Surprises me that they'd be looking to decrease the number of jumpers while also trying to make clash jumpers a bit more radical. I feel like we're at a decent spot with most clubs having home, clash, indigenous, throwback, maybe an anzac and maybe another special jumper which would mean no club would have more than 7 jumpers in a season. Then again when you compare that to sports with bigger fixtures, the NBA has 82 regular season games per team and it's never more than 6 uniforms per team and in soccer where a team could feasibly play almost 50 games in a season there's only a handful of clubs who have a 4th kit. So maybe there's good reason to shrink the number of kits in the AFL but it would be kind of futile if the matchups between teams are going to be super inconsistent.

Home, Clash, Anzac next year, two Indigenous, Retro, Gather, Charity/Social and Event/club

Carlton had members jumper, Collingwood a Pendlebury 400. Essendon Heppels last Gane etc.

could we potentially see teams branching out into non-club colours? (e.g. collingwood in a pink jumper)

I imagine priority would be given to the league-wide events and a club's own ideas would get shut down first.

Thanks for the insight Mero . Hope you’ve enjoyed your time back in Aus!

Was there any talk on the proper application of clash jumpers (a.k.a Carlton / Richmond / Essendon away to each other) or was it just around the number of jumpers themselves?
