But I also think we can cover X and Wines

Weren't we "covering" Duursma's absence while recovering from a PCL injury by playing Wines and Boak on the wings for extended periods?

Both Duursma and BZT are depth level players right now

Describe our wing depth? Even if we accept that Duursma is unproven and not just a capable-enough player cruelled by injury, I reckon he's top of the list.

Who cares.. is this a footy club or a family day out? Not like we could get his Brother anyway

This would be a better call if we weren't employing every Hinkley from about seven different branches of the dog-murderer family tree.

What does prayer have to do with it? I'm not a conservative Republican after another US school shooting.

You build an environment that players want to come to and you work to bring them to your club. That's what we do every trade period. That's what I believe in.

I can easily tell you who the biggest problem is at Port and it's not Xavier Duursma.
Yea not sure why people keep on with that rubbish, players go everywhere these days including Victorians & South Australians that would rather play in Queensland ffs.

Chad Wingard was a 2xAA at the age of 22. The best thing we could have done is worked with him to get him back to this form. His decline from his early career heights are just as much on the club as they are on himself. He has had injuries most seasons he has been at the Hawks. He found form when he got a run of games late this year. I'd take a half-interested and hobbled Wingard every day of the week over Jed McEntee.

I also think you've misunderstood the point I was making. We have essentially ended up with nothing from the trade if we trade Duursma for a mediocre tall defender (again, at least the worst in the league statistically) and continue to play Burton haphazardly.
If Clarkson couldn't get him interested in his footy then what hope did Donuts have?

Face the fact that Wingard was intent on cruising and there's nothing anyone could do about it.

Post-dynasty coach and potential racist bully Alastair Clarkson not being able to get the most out of disillusioned Aboriginal player. Shocking.

Absolute revisionist bullshit.

I think Duurs biggest problem is Hinkley prioritising defensive running of his wingmen. Polec, Amon were great offensively but struggled defensively for the most part and seen as players we were ok in losing.
Duurs is a product of Ken and it feels like he has been turned into a marathon runner in order to get back and try fill holes.
You can see he has become one paced and looking stuffed by the time he makes any contest as a result.
He never seems to be on the outside as an attacking option when there are contested balls the same way Amon and Polec were.

He will do better at Essendon where he may play a more traditional outside role and be able to supply the outside, running forward option.

The problem for us is that we have a coach that wants his wingmen to play a certain way and I'm not convinced it is actually conducive to playing good football.

One thing I really like about duursma which is hard to teach, and that is passion/emotion. He plays with genuine passion and his emotion shown after scoring goals shows how much he cares about winning. And I’m not talking about the bow and arrow, he has this look in his face, I remember that goal he kicked around quarter time of the 2020 prelim and that really got me fired up seeing that.

But then he goes and drops a regulation chest mark inside 50 in a game where every goal was like a diamond in the rough.

Regulation chest mark in the wet running back towards goal exactly a fortnight after being seriously knocked out doing the identical thing. Go hard at him. Bloody soft.

Our biggest problem is we seem incapable of developing talent. If players don't come in with talent they certainly are not getting better in our current system. Hence every year we need to top up on players who have at minimum the talent we require or we're toast. Name a player that has has gone on to improve beyond their "god-given" talent.

We should be spending money on skills coaching and our fitness department.
