All this talk about Murphy in this draft, how about the second best rated midfielder of last year.

Who whould you compare him to, and where abouts do you think he would go?

I just want to get a grasp on the extent of this 'superdraft'.

Dont base it on AFL exp.

Could name 5 blokes in this draft who will be better than Murphy.

Yeah but they would be unknown quantities, could turn into a dud could be a superstar.

People often forget with Ellis that he drafted bottom age. last year in the nationals he was third in the medal clearly the highest of any bottom aged player and was the player to watch for Vic C in front of Hanson, Selwood and the likes. i just think ellis would have held his own in this years draft. But we will never no!

Is it true that Selwood was better than Murphy last year ?
Before he got injured.

Yes well selwood captained the All Australian side the had Marc Murphy in it so obviously all aus selectors rated him better than Marc. He also won the medal for best player in the international rules series with Marc playing

Did Connors ever win the best player in the Under-17's title?

irrelevant

What matters is not who is better at 16, but between 18-26.

Connors has him covered.

Ellis would not be top 15 in this draft,
has good skills, but is very outside, timid, and is not that quick

Rubbish - what else are you meant to assess then when judging junior talent?

Brett Deledio was deemed the Best Player in the Under-16's and subsequently went Pick 1 - so obviously it stands for nothing?

Morrish medalists from 1994

1994 G Moorcroft
1995 R Hood
1996 N Brown
1997 D Murray
1998 L Hayes
1999 M Stolarcyzk
2000 D Rodan
2001 D Rodan
2002 L Shackleton
2003 M Brown
2004 M Bate

ect ect

what players look like as 16-17 year olds is largely irrelevant to where/if they get drafted.

Recruiters try and see what they will look like 5 years from now, and that is what determines what number they are taken.

Being the number 1 footballer in Australia as a 16 yr old does not mean you are guaranteed to go No 1 in the draft. Nor does it mean you will neccassarily have an Afl career.

Fair point, but there have been a couple of very good players there in tandem with the fact that until they play AFL, it's all that recruiters have to go on!

connors is a better player than ellis

he is quicker, sronger at the contest and has better skills

ellis would not make the top 15 this year

LMAO, if he was a Tiger and not a Hawk he would be rated top 8.

I thought the mourish medal was best player in the TAC? Correct me if Im wrong.
To be rated one of the best in the All Australian u/16s or u/18 is a far greater indicator of talent than best in the TAC cup/or best in victoria.

I agree that recruiters look to what players will look like in 5 years from now at afl level, - last year ellis would be a perfect example of this - was underweight, bottom age and played a lot of school footy yet is tall for a mid, quick and mobile, has great skills and very clean with the ball, has good decison making and leadership potential.
Dont know much about the draftees but couldnt imagine he'd slide out of the top 20 as some are suggesting.
