Few rumours getting around town....

Gembrook coach has quit?

Upwey's Porter & Sheers heading to East Ringwood?

Paul Grayling to Gembrook?

Can anyone confirm/deny any of these?

I think most other clubs hope Porter and Sheers are going back, but my info is that they and most of the Upwey players are already contracted for next year.

Have also heard that Grayling is out of Wandin - not sure where he is going.

Also heard Ricky Clarke is going back to coach Narre Warren - have not heard anything on Marsham

The vote for Bonnie Doons entry into the league is on tonight - interesting to see how it goes would think that they couldn't get the votes to come through but are still a chance to end up here no matter what.

Post on O & K thread has said that if they are rejected by YVMDFL then apply for O & K and are rejected there as well (likely scenario by the sound of it) that the VCFL can place them where they want with the YVMDFL apparently the preference and my feeling is the VCFL already know where Doon will be next year

Either way I feel sorry for them trying to get ready for 2010 and not knowing what is happening and think it will be tough for them especially if they have to play 'home' games away from their home ground as suggested. Would definitely hurt the club - Marysville has been mentioned but that is an hour from Bonnie Doon and would make it difficult for there volunteers, supporters etc to get there and support the club IMO

Any one else have any thoughts on this ??

I think we should recruit as many northern clubs as we can - and then run a northern division. The problems with the current arrangement are highlighted by the departure of South Belgrave and Silvan in recent years. It would be unfortunate if Emerald and Belgrave left as well.

With 75% of the vote required, this means that 6 clubs must vote no in order for it to be blocked.

I know of 3 clubs already that will be voting no but I genuinely don't know how tonight will go.

Overwhelmingly smashed.

5 in favour, 15 against !

Suggested that Bonnie Doon will appeal to Football Vic, which has the power to place them wherever they wish.

I'm pretty sure the VCFL's initial preference was for them to join the Ovens & King league.

What was Bonnie Doon's pitch to the clubs as to why it should be included into the Yarra Valley.

It does illustrate how the different organisations can be mis-aligned with their by laws and constitutions etc. If a structure is in place for clubs and a league to make their own decisions and abide by them, it all seems a bit redundant if a higher body can overrule and do whatever they want anyway.

The higher body has the final say because their rules are uniform across the country not silly bylaws put in place by biased egotistical boards of minor leagues

Bit of an overreaction there mate, I think what everyone is saying is that the league has voted for a new club to come in and it has been rejected by the league and it's clubs.
But if in the end the VCFL get the final say and put clubs where they want what's the point of voting and going through the processes and the leagues really have no say if it comes to it.

Every league should have a right to vote sides in or out I mean if Silvan hadn't got the votes across the line in the EFL I'm sure that league wouldnt be thrilled if they were just put there anyway.

I know I'm repeating myself but I and a few others have a feeling that the VCFL knows exactly where the BDFL sides will be playing next year - 2 of these sides have been rejected by leagues they are trying to get into as was expected. But the leagues processes may count for nothing in this and that is what people are saying why have rules, constitution if it is just overridden as would be the case if Silvan leave and if Doon is sent here by the VCFL

What else can the VCFL do? If some of its clubs can't find a willing league to compete in, does the VCFL just let them die? Not a good outcome for football!
MIW's comment about "misaligned" laws is valid, but just as clubs subscribe to a league's laws, so do those leagues when they operate under an umbrella organisation such as the VCFL and AFL.
The VCFL has responsibility to ALL of country football, not just a parochial area. Occasionally, situations such as this will expose conflicts and we all have to deal with it.

Pretty funny that outcome i would've thought! The only reasons the clubs who voted against it don't want Bonnie Doon in the YVMDFL would be, 1 the travel distance or 2 they don't want Bonnie Doon stealing thier thunder, but as i've been told on the forum by many, the travel is no drama so that carnt be the reason, it must be the thunder that they're worried about losing, and i'd like to know how many 1st div clubs voted against it? I'll take a wild guess, NINE!!!!

1. Travel is a genuine issue for some clubs!
2. Like it or not, the vote followed due process, was democratic and is binding on the clubs.
3. The YVMDFL concedes a certain amount of authority to its umbrella organisation in the VCFL, which in turn demurs to the VFL and AFL. This system caters for a broader range of views and (as Silvan and BD are likely to experience) provides a structured review of local decisions.

So the travel factor is genuine when it involves YOUR clubs, what rose coloured glasses we look through. Your right catpower the big 3 are scared of other clubs stealing their thunder hence all the rule changes ie points system 12 month rule etc etc all passed by a board biased towards their home clubs.

Actually, if the Bonnie Doon submission for 2nd division entry does go through, it doesn't affect my club for 2010.

What concerns me is that Emerald & Belgrave will have the current travel schedule plus Alex and Bonnie Doon on top of that.

If I was in charge of Belgrave in particular, I would be looking at 4th Div EFL immediately and why wouldn't you ?

How can Belgrave sell itself to prospective recruits with there draw when they these guys can all go and play footy at clubs 5 minutes away where the furtherest travel is 20 mins ?

That's why in these cases the position of AFL Victoria really needs to be seen as helping facilitate a solution rather than choosing sides in 2 opposing camps.

You miss named fool - (the only Cats with any power play at Skilled). The issue was not existing travel but the additional travel that would be put on the clubs- bonnie Doon is at least ANOTHER 1/2 HOUR from the current furthest clubs from Melbourne in Yea and Alex. By your misguided logic we should accept Echuca if they applied. The clubs looked at existing travel and decided it was not resonable to add another 1/2 Hour to clubs such as Belgrave and Emerald. I believe all 1st Divvy clubs bar Alex voted against - including your Cats, and the overwhelming reason was to protect founding clubs. It proves that as has been said many times not all clubs are as inward looking as your mob
