FALLEN AFL star Wayne Carey told Miami police they didn't know who they were "f---ing with" when he was arrested for allegedly assaulting them at a Miami hotel.
The disgraced footballer is charged with two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and one count of resisting an officer with violence after a wildly violent night at the Mandarin Oriental Miami hotel on October 27.
Miami police were called to the hotel after Carey allegedly smashed a wine glass in his girlfriend Kate Neilson's face inside the Azul Restaurant, which left her seriously bleeding.
Carey's case will be briefly mentioned in the Miami-Dade County Count on Friday morning US time (overnight Australian time).
Carey is not required to attend the hearing because it is a procedural matter.
He has already pleaded not guilty.
It is understood at the hearing his defence team will seek a continuance to give them more time to interview witnesses and gather evidence.
It would mean Carey's scheduled trial date on February 25 would be delayed.
Carey is accused of kicking Miami police officer Daniel Rodriguez in the lip, and elbowing officer Camilo Hernandez in the face inside his five-star hotel room.
Carey allegedly told the two officers: "You don't know who you're f---ing with.''
Miami police have said they had no idea who Carey was or that he was a famous Australian footballer.
Prosecutors last month confirmed to the Herald Sun they had chosen not to proceed on one count of aggravated battery against Ms Neilson and the charge was dropped months ago.
Carey is only being prosecuted on charges that related to the alleged assaults on the two police officers.
Ms Neilson wrote a letter to the court 24 hours after she was allegedly "glassed'' by Carey and said the incident was sparked by a "simple misunderstanding of an earlier event in our relationship''.
She also personally guaranteed Carey's release on $US32,500 bail after he spent about 14 hours in a Miami lock-up.
She could be personally sued by the bail bondsman if he fails to appear for his trial.
"We have worked out our differences and reconciled,'' Ms Neilson wrote.
"I do not wish to press any charges against Wayne and would feel much better putting this unfortunate incident behind us.''
If convicted Carey faces up to 15 years' in a US jail.
