I once played mixed basketball - rules being at one end of the court only the girls were allowed in the keyway, the other end the guys only in the keyway. I decided one game to stretch the rules a touch and went for a dunk at the girls end, jumped from outside the keyway, swung off the ring and landed outside the key on the other side. Ref was no fun, no score counted.

Been wanting to play again but injuries make it hard, haven't been able to run in almost a year. Still casually shoot hoops at Sportlink (think that's the vermont stadium), can still handle the ball fine but my shooting has gone down the toilet, even more so when you can only jog and do a non jumping jump shot :p Played heaps until about u16, then a bad run of injuries and a father coaching 2 sons on my team kinda killed my interest, got approached a few times during late high school to join teams but never really felt like it. Losing interest combined with height stopping at 5'11 kind of killed my skillset, what was left got destroyed with a knee injury and later on a reasonably bad ankle injury, lost almost 20cm off my vertical leap which I never got back :( Went from being able to just dunk it, to well even if I jump now I can barely slap the backboard with my fingertips...

Still surgery soon so fingers cross I can run and jump without pain again soon.

Ha nice one. When I played mixed basketball, the guys weren't allowed to defend the girls, but girls could defend guys. That was usually fine, unless the other team had some brickhouse chick on their team that would charge you at every opportunity.

WRT my basketball, I used to play basketball quite a bit in my early teens. Played rep basketball, and played in quite a few tournaments. Though kinda stopped playing through high school and uni
due to being more focused on my football. Though now play social basketball in the summer. It's awesome.

I'm about 6'2", and usually defend the 2-4 depending on match-ups. But I like to handle the ball like a 1 on offence. Can dribble fairly well, but have lost my long range shot due to having not played for a while.

You could say I'm a bit of a Point Forward.

my final year of ball consisted of:

- me rising for throw down dunks during warm up. this despite me being unable to even touch the net. id just elevate and piff the ball at the ring
- whenever shooting a layup id yell "AND ONE". this despite no contact
- when ball would go out of bounds id point our way and try to con the ref
- call plays that no one knew about. we didn't have any plays anyway
- calling out nba player names at random including YAO MING!
- tell the ref how to do his job. i loved going down low to bang bodies. during post ups against bigger players id remark "he's all over me!!".

good thing i retired.

haha.

no, i channeled my inner dwight when i announced intentions of retiring. then the next week i told them id be back next season. a few days after i declared that it was in my best basketball interests to look elsewhere. then i laughed and made funny faces

Were you a Point Guard?

I'm assuming that because I'm imagining you as a shorty due to azn genetics...

i was a PG yes. but had very poor ball handling skills. so redefined my game. let our SG take over duties and i applied myself at the defensive end. sometimes, especially when opponents went man on man id ventured down to the low block.id get there by playing a 2 man game with our resident PF/SF. essentially he became the guard, and me the forward.

there id demand the ball and use my silky smooth passing abilities from the post, and initiate, or Point, the offence from there.

Saturday night, first game of the season, completely new team, coach thinks I'm a star because my jumper looks nice, we have our (real) best two players out, so basically I'm playing Point Forward all game, didn't get a minute on the bench against the fastest, fittest, biggest team I'd ever played against, was absolutely buggered 10 mins in, not to mention the end of the game. The score? We lost 71-4.

I play social basketball and i'm a shooting guard in a point guards body lol I can get hot from the 3 point line and can drive to the basket... sometimes - from there my moves can look like a million bucks but I usually will miss occasionally hitting a crazy contact layup haha I actually have a decent floater now that I can hit during games which i've worked on. My ball handling is on par with Danny Green's so i'm not expected to handle the ball most of the time :thumbsu: I would say my strongest part of my game is my passing and outside shooting, although I do love getting rebounds when I can - i'm sure all us little guys are like that though.

Finest memory would be hitting a George Gervin like finger roll(a simple layup off the glass) at the buzzer to put us up by 1 in our social grade grand final.... Felt like MJ, I went HAM, no one could guard me lol and that was about 2 years ago and I don't let my mates forget who got us those trophies haha.

I rack up the rebounds. Though that is usually due to me continually rebounding my own missed layups. Racking up rebounds... on 20% shooting.

Just smashed our Semi - final opponents 87 - 15 on Monday. Third time we have smacked them this season yet they still talked a whole heap of trash after the game.

Made me laugh.
