Eastaugh, how could you call Philipoussis soft? He came back from three knee injuries, and he has just won a 5-set match with the 11th best player in the world, this happened 3 months after his third knee operation. And you're calling him soft? He can serve up to 220 km/h, hit the ball really hard and you're calling him soft? Get your head checked! You don't have that much knowledge about tennis as you claimed to have, Eastaugh. Pathetic.

Exactly.

How can you call a guy soft when he comes back from a 3rd knee op, and is playing such quality tennis as he did last night from only a handful of matches.

I thought I would also point out Easty, that Philippoussis is coming into some good form into the leadup for the Davis Cup...

No one is disputing that it is gutsy to come back from knee operations but as for out on the court, more often than not as the media said, it was the old case of 'looks like tarzan, plays like jane'.
I am willing to change my observation though. I will see how he goes.

Thats exactly your problem.

You pay WAY too much attention to the media. They will blow anything up if it will get simpletons like you to listen to them.

McEnroe is my all time favorite. Bloody legend. Didn't give a stuff what people thought of him.

Today Hewitt is the man. Love his attitude. He'd cut your balls off to win.

Rafter sh*ts me. Plays the nice boy angle, but he loves avoiding those taxes. I pay tax Rafter. I am better than you.

Like your not a simpleton......... yeah right.
The simpletons who dislike hewitt probably pay too much to our tall poppy syndrome sporting journalists, the same ones that were determined to get rid of steve waugh.

I agree entirely. I have always liked Mark and yes I admit that sometimes in his career he has not always done what was considered okay by the Australian tennis public. However in saying this he has had a lot of pressure placed on him in his early years, as being the next rising star, however injuries and slow development of some of the aspects of his game prohibited him achieving a huge amount of success. It has also been hard for Mark to come to grips with certain clicky members of the Australian tennis circle.
If you watched last night's match you would have seen how much more focused Mark has become on playing the best tennis he can can win or loose. Since Hewitt's rise to number 1 a large amount of pressure has been lifted off the Scud. Since playing only a handful of matches since returning from injury Mark's win last night was quite remarkable. He was pushed to all limits and yet still triumphed.
If Philippoussis stays injury free this season then I can say that the Davis Cup will again return to Australian shores. If not there is little chance of winning it.

So why don't we all follow Pat's fine example and become Bermudans? Then we can all enjoy the lack of law enforcement, hospital beds, roads, etc. We could watch our country turn to crap, it'd be great!!!!

That arseh*le can do what he wants, but i'll be buggered if i'll call him Australian. He can't have it both ways. Bloody choker.

Isnt it using your brains ? He is saving money by doing it. Anyway, it is extremely rare for any aussie sportsperson or even celebrity to be based in Australia, so whats the difference ???? Hasnt had a bad career for a choker though has he ?

I am fairly sure that all Australian Tennis players other than Patrick Rafter now live in Australia.

The Scud lives in California.

And my favourite players are as follows:
Anna
Illie
Arthurs
Lleyton
Kimbo Clijsters
The Scud

Not condoning Pat's tax evasion set up in the past but if it seems 80%+ of professional tennis players live in three different locations: Monte Carlo (wonder why?), California or Florida. Pat was just a little more creative and lived an hour off the coast of Florida.

Pat bought a home in Mosman, Sydney a couple of months and presume is going to live there from now on, he also started up a charity for Australian children so he can't be a complete arseh*le (though he maybe did start it for purely tax purposes!?).

He evaded tax by living in a country with zero tax but if he lived in Florida or California he wouldn't be paying Australian tax regardless.

spot on. His charity work and his good, friendly persona and good sportsmanship make him a top bloke !

Philippousis = defination of soft.

As much as I like the guy, and think he got a raw deal from Newcombe, he has been soft up until about a year ago.

The proof:

- Loses his attitude when things don't go right. He often loses sets 6-1.

- He chops and changes his coaches all the time. His actions seem like he blames his coaches for some of his poor performances.

- Keeps on having press conferences each time he has a new coach where he comes out and says, "Well, I've been a bit lazy, and have developed some poor training habits, but I've changed - I'm selling my 30 motor bikes and moving to a base where I have no distractions and can concentrate on my game." This record has been broken for some time now.

- He doesn't have the ability to delat satisfaction. Most other top players only reward themselves when they achieve something great (i.e. a grand slam title). Philippousis is running around spending up already. He should be concentrating on tennis more than his lifestyle. His actions show that his lifestyle takes priority over his tennis.

Soft, soft, soft, and soft.

Disclaimer: I do believe Philippousis will win a grand slam title in the near future, but I also believe he has the talent to be a regular top 5 player. Good game, shame about the brain

Rafter is avoiding paying taxes the legal way which is smart money management and if you had the chance to avoid taxes dont tell me you wouldnt take advantage of that either so {more about not agreeing with Pornstar}

I agree with your assessment on Philippousis, bunsen. I like him but he's always been a bit too soft to be a champ, same could be said of Rafter, nice bloke but hasn't got the killer instinct. Hewitt does, although I don't particularly like the bloke, he does have the tenacity that the other two lack.

I must say I agree with this. People should worry about themsleves rather than other people. I'm amazed at the amount of people who resent people with money and resent people who LEGALLY evade tax. Do these people really think that they would do it differently themselves being in that situation?

A classic case of envy and tall poppy syndrome.

It's called 'getting a free ride'. He thinks that the responsibility of tax falls on the average income earner, not the famous multi-millionaires.

If you were making say $6m per year and an accountant said to you, "Look Pornstar, you can pay $3m in tax, or you can pay no tax at all. Both are completely legal"

Which alternative would you choose?

Nothing against living in a tax haven but why the charade of being australian (or swiss or russian)

Why not group them according to where their true allegiance lies

Nike or Adidas
