Both will be brilliant. My niece saw Kamasi a couple of years back in North Carolina and said he was incredible. She and her BF hung out with the band after the gig and she said they were great humans. Would love to catch him, but I can't justify a trip.

Thundercat is an amazing musician. Is he playing with Kamasi's band ?
Thundercat is going to be the more convenient one, and is thankfully also the one I am more desperate to go to. My mate isn't hugely into Thundercat, but saw him at Laneway a few years back and was blown away.

I believe he has been playing with Dennis Hamm on keys and Justin Brown on drums. That's the trio (not counting the violinist) in his NPR Tiny Desk concert too:

Ideally I'll be able to get to Kamasi Washington next week too, but if not, hopefully Thundercat will leave me sated. Watching live performances has me pretty excited.

I bought some lovely acid for Golden Plains festival, going to the King Krule side show as well. Kamasi, Thundercat, Floating Points, Adrian Sherwood, The Avalanches, Mogwai, Lee Fields, Ata Kak, Rocket Science... so many highlights. Can't wait.

Grace Jones was incredible the other week btw.

Saw her at Blues and Roots a few years ago. It was kind of accidental as Bob Dylan was awful and so glad I saw the show. She was amazing.

Iron and Wine announced a tour overnight. Playing at The Astor June 2nd.
Great to have a Saturday night gig. Been struggling with mid week gigs as I get older :$

Not quite a gig, but going to Luna on SX to watch Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds live in Copenhagen on April 12.

Went to this last night.

Record Club Billy Bragg/Wilco Mermaid Avenue. Members of Ghost Hotel and Wayward Johnson perform the critically acclaimed album of unearthed Woody Guthrie songs recorded by Billy Bragg & Wilco, Mermaid Avenue (Vol. 1)

I love this album. I'm a big fan of Billy Bragg and Wilco and loved what they did with the found Woody Guthrie songs. Been meaning to get along to one of these Record Club gigs for a while and this was well worth it. All terrific musicians and all obvious fans of the album they were paying tribute to.

It was freezing inside the Rosemount though. The AC was set to about minus 5° :(

There was an announcement that the next Record Club will be Led Zeppelin 4. Hopefully at the Newport.

I was there too, didn't notice the cold.
The Led Zep gig is at Mojos.

Simple Plan.

My idea was to go with my cousins travelling from Adelaide to the show on the 24th of April but that sold out too quickly. I got a ticket to the second show instead.

Simple Plan aren't one of my biggest favourites but I do love a few of their songs a lot. Their playing a 15-year old album in full which I won't know every songs off either.

Regardless I'm sure it'll still be enjoyable.

Bloc Party are doing Silent Alarm shows in the UK. God I hope they bring this to Oz, such a classic album.
Eh it feels dirty. They were always a forward looking band (to their fault) and ultimately they’re two band members down and it’s just a sell out feeling thing. I’d rather see Kele and Russell do it acoustically.

Is it an admission you're done as a band to tour a classic album or just an acknowledgement of what fans would love to hear, a little bit of fan service? I'm not sure.

Definitely the former. You don't really need to revert to playing your only good stuff if there's more good stuff coming out.

A band with a big back catalogue could certainly play a killer set without having to limit itself to one album. That said, I'd pay to see Radiohead play OK Computer or Pearl Jam play Ten. Bloc Party don't really fall into their category though.

It is can work very well. Primal Scream doing Screamadelica a few years ago was sensational. They also did a lot of other stuff from their repertoire once they'd done Screamadelica.
