Tonight Im seeing the mighty SAXON. Support band is Skidrow, who ive never really liked. But anyways its gonna be a killer night in Oberhausen

Anything after 'Sink Or Swim' apart from a couple of tracks on 'The 59 Sound' sounds like average Springsteen singalongs. Just personal opinion because I think they could do better.

Yeh the Springsteen connection is pretty cliched though and that whole sound is contained with so many more New Jersey bands. Hell, Titus Andronicus have that whole thing down pat and they're rarely called out.

I think they actually take more from Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros. American Slang also borrows quite heavily from The Clash.

Brian Fallon is however, an excellent songwriter and his mix of metaphor, nostalgia and pop culture is what makes them so likeable. Miles Davis & The Cool plays out like a rom-com from the 80's and I think that's the idea. Heart on a sleeve, bravado, riding around in cars with your mates, sometimes pining for lost youth, other times being captivated by everything around you.

Their last few albums have been disappointing but I don't really think Sink or Swim is that great either.

The order would easily be:

1. The '59 Sound
2. American Slang
3. Sink or Swim
4. Handwritten
5. Get Hurt
Being the big Springsteen fan I am, I don't see so much correlation between the acts, I mean sure, they're both from Jersey, but their sound is not at all remotely similar.

Fallon is a fine lyricist and songwriter in his own right, and he should be praised for that.

I quite like all of their albums, although I am not familiar with Sink or Swim, I think Get Hurt and American Slang are very good albums.

I wouldn't call myself a fan (if we are being true to the term fanatical) to either Bruce or Gaslight, but when the mood is right I enjoy of them both a lot. But can you really not hear the similarities? Especially when Brian is in acoustic solo mode or working with The Horrible Crows.

I'm not sure about gaslight in feb, not a huge fan of what i have heard of recent album. Last year in Brooklyn though I saw Brian Fallon playing solo, supporting the Bouncing Souls (for $3!), and it was a really ****ing good show, mix of own stuff, gaslight songs and some covers (awesome version of Astro Zombies by Misfits), really really good.

I mean, I can a little, but I don't listen to them and think to myself, oh my God, they sound identical to Bruce.

Should try give it another few listens, might grow on you mate!

Anyone else see The War on Drugs? I honestly thought it was an amazing show... could have got a bit more slave ambient in though.

saw them on tuesday, it was good without any stand out moments.

setlist was a good mix, played most of their latest album and some of the old stuff although they didn't play my 2 fav songs from slave ambient.

long encore seems to suggest they are enjoying themselves, will be interesting to see how they progress in the next few years.

Saw Jamie T last night at the Astor in Perth. Great venue, much bigger than I thought but it's good to see the great man can still fill out a venue like that. So sweaty, obviously, and not a bad crowd. The guy can turn on a show and I guess everyone had been waiting a long time to see him as well, so it was a pretty special evening... good sing alongs, good crowd, and a big old shout out to the angry pom ex-pats who I usually find gross but were up for a chat about Arsenal – and who grabbed me and my mate a pint after.

Pretty special to see him after about seven years of waiting, and with a mate who I'd been saying "oh he'll have an album next year!" with since about 2009...

JT was a real lad, I had a ball in all honesty. Haven't sweated that much in a while.

In retrospect there seemed a real sense of finality to it. Someone after the show was swearing that his exodus was because of something a little more serious than just wanting to hone songwriting. If this is his last album I won't be shocked.
