Be interested to hear from any unbias supporters about the conditions on Sunday. I was at Gembrook and its no stretch to say the wind ruined the standard of the games. A five goal wind blew basically the whole day at Gembrook and it really effected the skills. The poor netballers well lets just say they couldnt wait to get the hell out of there. What was the weather like else where was it windy at Warby?

I'M BACKKKKKKKKKKK. Now you can all sleep easy. Was gonna do finals tips last week and have a crack at Div 1 tips aswell, but our Mad Monday got as effed up as Shapelle Corby at a Nimbin Reggae festival. I, as a completely unbiased onlooker, will give my opinion. I chased the Qualifying finals around on Sunday, saw the 18's and about 3/4's of the 2's at Warby, before I went to Niembrook (Nieff Nigney pronunciation) to watch the Seniors.
I really don't see why everyone's pissin' and moaning about the wind, I thought it was a magnificent day and the silky skills that Smellex and Several had to offer provided all fans with a textbook copy of what a highly skilled game should be...lol jks...the wind was blowing more than Michael Jackson at a Wiggles concert, which was apparently a "calm day" in paradise.
This is how it is, and some people seem to be taking comments on here the wrong way, from an UNBIASED point of view...
- Seville and Emerald have been clear standouts all year (re: the gap between 2nd and 3rd for Div 1 people who haven't looked), yet Seville's skills on Saturday were VERY mediocre due to the conditions. 3 goals scored at 1 end ALL game. I saw Bretherton kick 4 goals in the 3rd quarter, 3 were 'helicopters' from outside 50, one was from inside the square. If the wind isn't an issue, then answer me this, 27km away, I watched Under 18's and Reserves games which were windless, and hence far more skillful than the senior 'flag favorites' who played in a vortex. Also, even people from Alex will agree with this, they aren't even remotely close to Emerald and Seville in the skills department, yet in the 3rd quarter their Full Back kicked the ball out on the full (due to no-one touching it)...at their 50m line. Im sorry, but no-one can kick it 110m. Do we really want a Grand Final where potentially the best team won't win due to the wind??
- If there is a forecast for wind (not a gentle breeze), it's going to be prevalent at ALL grounds, like this Sunday, so no problems where any game is played, be it Gembrook, Silvan or Thornton.
- The "wind issue" is NOT an attack on the Gembrook Football Netball Club, it's players, fans or committee. In terms of grounds, IN MY OPINION, Gembrooks is in the best condition. Car Parking is generally fairly good, and great facilities.
- In the last quarter, Kane Jones kicked from 55m on the boundary. He weighed up the tornado that was blowing, and LITERALLY kicked it as high as possible to the hotspot 25m out, the wind then did the rest, and pulled it 20-25m through the middle, goal post high.
- Netball finals should be played at Belgrave, Kinglake or Yarra Junction as they are all indoors, out of the gales. In B grade, Yea beat Emerald by a goal, when Emerald beat Yea by 26 points the week before. In A grade, Powelltown beat Seville, yet the week before, Seville beat Powelltown by 20 goals. Only putting 2-and-2 together.

As mentioned, this IS NOT an attack on GFNC, their fans, players, or committee, or even their ground, it is purely that the location of their ground at the ABSOLUTE pinnacle of a hill, makes it susceptible to conditions which can, will and have altered results. Look at Gembrooks last 2 rounds. Start the year as flag favorites, last round beat the top of the ladder, away. Yet the week before, lose by a point to the wooden spooners, at home. Once again, just putting 2-and-2 together.

...so somewhere where there is no wind and rain forecast for Sunday? Any ideas? Etihad perhaps?
McCavity you are a smart man but you are still missing the point or now your smart ass bias comments from you and RHT are just making you guys look stupid.

It is clearly more dramtic than at other grounds. Im pretty sure as a summary most people would agree The ground, facilities & the professional way in which Gembrook run the finals is 2nd to none but the Wind plays such a factor in the spectacle & tactics of football & netball it outweighs the positives.

Really? I think you'll find I was responding to a comment made about the Melbourne forecast for Sunday, which according to one poster on this board is for wet and windy conditions in Melbourne. Based on that his suggestion was to move this Sunday's final - to where exactly? If that is indeed the forecast, then it'll be the same everywhere.

I don't think I've ever said it doesn't get windy in Gembrook. But some of the sweeping generalisations on this board would suggest that every game played at Gembrook is wind affected. That is as absurd an assertion as it would be for me to suggest that it's never windy at Gembrook.

I'll grant you that my comment was sarcastic, but I found it hard to keep biting my tongue after reading some of the things I've read on here.

Ok fair enough about being sarcastic but we are going to have to agree to disagree as it will not be the same everywhere! There are many factors like lay of the land, ground in a valley v's ontop of a hill, protection from on coming weather etc. This is what people are telling you. Gembrooks ground & area in general is more prone to higher wind & to make matters worse the windiest part of the year is spring = finals.
I think by now you know which guys / gals on here are fair dinkum in regards to constructive comments worry about these & ignore the shite:thumbsu:

lol i wasnt being a scallywag, im sure that all happened lol i was being constuctive, finals should be played at Woori, but we move on. Been a long year and a battle to make the finals, after a slow start for a number of reasons, alot of changes to the team, most from last yr went to higher standards to see how they go and others retired cause Hymy is very very old lol,

At the end of the day the players don't want to play there and the supporters don't want to go there either... Its all that should be considered.

Healesville and woori are both better options.

Why should it matter that all the players and supporters hate playing and watching games at Gembrook? Surely you dont think the game is about them?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

i played in the under 18's yesterday at olinda and it oustanded me why they would play a final at olinda the surface was rock hard sandy in areas and the ball bounce was uneven as sevilles ground why couldnt they have played the final at woori, yea, alex or healesville this is 1 of the factors why i wont be playing in the yvmdfl next year sorry its a great league but to play a final at olinda and a major final as well

Interesting thoughts on the Olinda Surface.
I thought watching yesterday that the ground looked pretty good.
Yes, surface was hard, happens after dry spell and 60kmh winds.
The uneven bounce, this is the beauty of football. Maybe a round ball would be better suited if you are looking for an even bounce!

Good news announced at Brookers training last night, regardless of the outcome of this week end's matches.

After earlier announcing his intention to stand down as senior coach in 2012 due to the pressure of work commitments, Travis has since been able to make arrangements through his employment that will enable him to continue as Gembrook senior coach in 2012. Also announced last night, was Ricky Clark's intention to stay on at Gembrook for season 2012.

Good news all round! I know that the players and supporters are ecstatic that Trav and Rick will still be Brookers in 2012!

Guess for an extra 10k arrangements can be made. 35k for a non playing coach the Brookers are desperate for success.

I was at the game, and from where I was standing, it looked as though the ball was bouncing in all kinds of directions...lol jks...this happens at EVERY game, hence we love, breathe, and play the game. It's called football. Go play soccer or ten-pin bowling. You guys did look hard done by though, because that wasn't happening to Yea, only to you guys...lol jks...Hit targets and it won't be a problem. Don't clutch at straws pal, both teams played on the same day, same ground, same ball, and same conditions, alas the best team on the day won...as much as I dislike their club. I have no affiliation with your club, Yea or OFCFC, but that's just a ridiculous post from someone who has been a solid contributor to this forum throughout the year. Anyone from Seville or Emerald care to comment on the ground they played on? I'll bet any money it was rock hard and uneven in places. It's called nature. The grounds aren't meant to be basketball courts.

Solid review of the Div 2 finals at OFCFC on the other thread aswell TeeS, always good to get some feedback from Div 1 people. Thought the day ran very smoothly, well done.

Emerald finished on the bottom of the ladder last year. If they end up winning the flag, they will be the first YVMDFL team to go from bottom to top in the space of one season (in the same division, that is).

Seville FC - lowest number of behinds scored in a match

0.0 v Silvan, 1921
5.0 v Warburton, 1936
0.1 v Warburton, 1937
2.1 v Millgrove, 1937
4.1 v Monbulk, 1996
0.1 v Healesville, 2001
6.1 v Emerald, 2011

Lowest number of behinds scored in a finals match

Healesville 2.1 v Millgrove, 1909
Yarra Junction 3.1 v Lilydale, 1915
Lilydale 3.1 v Yarra Glen, 1921
Seville 6.1 v Emerald, 2011
