So on the one hand you say that the Carlton experience is not a "wide enough lens" and on the other you cite getting Dal Santo, Waite and Higgins 6 years ago when your list was very different as an example of free agents choosing North? It makes sense and I agree it's unlikely. There 17 other teams.
Your experience following Carlton is not a wide enough lens to view the situation I feel. Carlton's failures are not the failures of the 17 other teams. It can and does happen. Whilst Higgins, Waite and Dal Santo weren't too tier, they will move to a good organisation with a clear direction.
Our path is very clear. New CEO, new head of football, new list manager, new coach. If you come, you come because you fit our vision. Rhyce wants elite ball users off half back. He wants people who can use the football cleanly. Under Scott we used dour defenders and rebounded by handball or to Waite, Petrie, Goldstein down the line. Change is afoot though and whilst I rate our chances of securing Williams as very low, our ability to pay and offer security is not a limiting factor. It's the opposite.

900k is fine if they can convince that the compensation is enough for GWS.If a club offer Zac 900k a year then they deserve all the pain that goes with it. Joke!

They would be mad if they didnt , what do they have to loseHe is a very good footballer and I'd love him at Carlton but 900k reeks of desperation. North will throw the chequebook at anything that moves but it's the wrong time for a gun free agent. They aren't even at rock bottom yet and even with William's, they are favorites for the wooden spoon next year.
Wouldn’t pay him any more than 700k a year, and that’s being genius. He’s good but no world beater and seems to always get injured.
I suggest you go back and watch his two goals from the Melbourne game the week prior if you think he lacks leg speed.I couldn't even tell you how champion data is collated, and have zero interest.
Looking at Williams, last night should tell you all you need to know: average leg-speed, no skills on his left side, limited awareness i.e the tackle by Lonie 15m out from goals that he didn't see coming, and he tends to just bang the ball on the boot.
He will get picked up, if GWS are unable to re-jig their list, but he will be another GWS player that is massively over-rated from the outside - a bit like Coniglio was last year.
Bit of an odd statement. If we're widening the lens, shouldn't we talk about top tier, expensive free agents? They're more pertinent to the situation. I don't need to rehash North's inability to recruit Dusty or Kelly when they were better than they are at present, do I?Your experience following Carlton is not a wide enough lens to view the situation I feel. It's probably more "generous" than genius.Wouldn’t pay him any more than 700k a year, and that’s being genius. He’s good but no world beater and seems to always get injured.
Disagree! Williams looks to have a bit of Mongrel and had to earn being a late pick.Look - he's not THAT good, right?
This screams of another GWS trade where they get exposed as only an okay player once they're in another program.
He has informed GWS he wants to explore free agency.
My thoughts exactly, I'd say it's a waste for which ever club he ends up at not to push him through the midfield, North and Blues both need another midfielder with pace and skill, he'd fit that perfectlyHas real midfield potential too as we saw at the end of last year.
Cashed up teams surely go hard. He's an A grader who will cost nothing at the trade table.
North will obviously ask the question, Carlton have Martin's front loaded deal reducing by a fair chunk next year don't they? I suspect Kreuzer was on decent coin too.
