Ha ha between 650-800, give or take 150k. That’s a huge difference. No way his expectations are that broad.
I've seen reports suggesting 650 and some suggesting 800 is what I'm saying :)

What job exactly? You're entering year 1 of a full list rebuild. Why would William's go to North where he will spend the rest of his career in the bottom 4?

Dollars foucault.

Your claim is that it's all about premiership success. If that were the case then all the best players would move to one team on minimum chips and win every yera. It doesn't happen.

It's a competition after all. When Williams joins, with Corr, with 3-4 top tier youngsters to go with thomas, ldu, scott, zurhaar, simpkin, larkey it might just turn within their careers.

You've literally missed out on everyone but Polec when your list was better. You've just gutted your list, why would a high quality footballer join unless he is a money mercenary? I find the confidence of North fans the most difficult to understand.

He is one of the most offensive players in the comp.

While his kicking isn't always creative, it's penetrating and mostly accurate. Line-breaking pace, and a capable clearance specialists (again, when he's played in the midfield), who is actually quite strong despite his size.

However, definition of a 1 way runner, think Beams in his prime. Will dominate the game with 25-30 quality possessions if played in the midfield, but his opponent will also have a similar degree of impact.

If he went into the national draft, I'd draft him in the top 5 this year despite his age.

But is it really worth it? I feel for guys like Simpson playing their careers at a dud club. Sure they get a bit more coin but playing finals is the goal.

He may not have a flag but he has played big finals and in big games.
He may think the coin that’s on offer is a once in a life time opportunity for his family and to much of a difference between what’s on off from clubs up the ladder or with a better list.

Mmm we shall see. Historical precedent is not in favor of a move to North. It would be such a waste seeing him play at North.

How many A-graders go to cellar dweller teams about to embark on a major rebuild?

I suspect this one is going to play out like the Shiel nomination, and Williams ends up at a club offering less but is further up the ladder.

Huge optimism from North supporters.

Hey I want him to stay, but no way can he get 900k with us.
He is a very good footballer and I'd love him at Carlton but 900k reeks of desperation. North will throw the chequebook at anything that moves but it's the wrong time for a gun free agent. They aren't even at rock bottom yet and even with William's, they are favorites for the wooden spoon next year.

Answered your own question. It's almost like there's a variable you're missing on purpose.

I think it's more likely than not he will end up elsewhere. To suggest players don't look to their own security in their decision making is a bit silly though.

I'm not missing anything because it never happens. Top end free agents never nominate bottom clubs offering inflated money. Trust me, I know.

Name one free agent who would be considered an A grader who has gone to a bottom 4 club. In addition, name one elite player in the past 5-7 years who has nominated a bottom 4 club for a trade.

It’s not an either/or thing. Dangerfield, Lynch, Neale, Treloar, Shiel etc could have accepted marginally more elsewhere but chose to go to teams they felt would be contending. They are still all being paid very well.

Polec is the perfect example of a player who chose money over success and his decision looks to have backfired completely.

You may have forgotten already but Chris Judd did come to Carlton when you were in the bottom 4 and got the spoon in the previous 2 years. It happens.

Williams is not elite.

You've got 10 years to set yourself up for life, flags are nice but don't pay the bills. He's been on modest coin at GWS apparently, needs a big payday before he moves onto a gardening business or the like.
