The GWS Giants have unveiled their club song – penned and produced by the Cat Empire’s Harry Angus.
Angus contacted the AFL’s newest team after he was musically inspired in the “old classic football song”.
As well as consulting with GWS players and officials, Angus “began to research where some of these old classic songs had come from, to understand the mindset of the old captains and players who created these pieces of music. It became clear that the beauty of these great songs is their simplicity.”
Giants Chief Executive David Matthews praised the new song, saying at its launch “It is very much a traditional football song, yet it is completely unique at the same time. We feel it will resonate with the people of Western Sydney and also football supporters more broadly”.
The song was launched ahead of the Giants historic NAB Cub Clash against Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs at Blacktown International Sportspark.
OK, OK… here it is. Really.
