Richmond has finally claimed a huge scalp by a claiming a commanding 62-point win against premiership contender Hawthorn.

Jack Riewoldt (16 disposals, 6 goals) displayed the kind of form that won him a Coleman Medal in 2010 as the Tigers finally delivered on their promise.

Dustin Martin, for the second consecutive week, got Richmond off to a flyer, kicking the first goal that signalled Richmond’s intentions.

Hawthorn responded quickly through Luke Bruest, however it was to be Hawthorn’s only goal for the quarter, despite several solid opportunities.

Richmond proceeded to kick the final three goals of the first quarter, including two to small forward Jake King to give the Tigers a 19-point quarter-time lead.

Clinton Young gave Hawthorn the ideal start to the second quarter, booting the first goal to bring the margin back to just 12 points.

Richmond though, answered Hawthorn’s question, piling on four of the next five goals to reach a game-high lead of 31 points as the heavens began to open.

A late goal to Channel 7 lovechild Cyril Rioli with 20 seconds brought the margin back to 23 points at the main break.

The third quarter witnessed a arm wrestle as each team traded blows on the MCG surface which played like a dry-weather game. Both teams soon began kicking with an accuracy that was absent in the first half.

A Rioli goal for Hawthorn 25 minutes in reduced the gap to 17 points before a final surge from Richmond added two late goals to put Richmond out to a commanding 29-point lead at the final change.

As the rain once again began to fall harder than ever, so too did Richmond’s momentum, as the Tigers piled on eight final quarter goals to the Hawks’ two.

Riewoldt in particular had a huge quarter, booting four final quarter goals to lead Richmond to their fourth win of the year and their most convincing one yet.

Richmond next face St Kilda at Etihad next Friday night, while Hawthorn will look to redeem their season against North Melbourne in Tasmania next Saturday.
