PORT ADELAIDE        3.3    4.7    5.7     9.8 (62)

HAWTHORN    7.4    9.8    10.10    16.12  (108)

Hawthorn have over come Port Adelaide by 46 points in a fiery contest at AAMI Stadium.

Brad Sewell (33 disposals, eight clearances) and Luke Breust (19 disposals, three goals) were exceptional for the Hawks while Cornes (29 disposals, 10 marks) was the best for Port.

Hawthorn was rampant right from the start, booting seven opening quarter goals to Port’s three. The Hawks in particular were able to create space behind the Port Adelaide defenders, creating moments of panic with on such occasion resulting in a free kick up the ground to Franklin for holding.  The tactics were effective and lead to a 25-point quarter time lead to Hawthorn.

The first ten minutes of the second quarter an arm wrestle, with both teams fighting for momentum. It was Hawthorn’s new recruit Jack Gunston who eventually broke the deadlock, with Franklin capatilising soon after to extend the margin out to 36 points. A late goal to Port Adelaide’s Stewart brought the margin back to 29 points at the half.

Justin Westhoff gave Port Adelaide a glimmer of hope when kicked the first goal of the third quarter to bring the margin back to 25 points, however Lance Franklin kicked his third and fourth goal to steal any hope of momentum away from Port, with a late goal to Roughead to make the three quarter time margin 46 points.

The sting in the game had well and truly left by the fourth quarter as result was beyond doubt. Bradley Hill kicked the first two goals of his career as Hawthorn started to blow the margin out further. Late goals to Port Adelaide helped reduce to the margin, resulting in a 46 point in to Hawthorn.

Hawthorn will host Brisbane at the MCG next Sunday while Port Adelaide will travel to Etihad to tackle the Western Bulldogs.
