ADELAIDE 6.5 10.6 14.7 19.10 (124)
WEST COAST 1.2 5.5 8.7 11.9 (75)
Bernie Vince has celebrated his 100th game in perfect fashion, kicking four goals and gaining 25 disposals as the Crows created a one-game buffer at the top of the ladder by comprehensively defeating the Eagles by 49 points.
Not everything went right for the Crows however, with key forward Kurt Tippett subbed off early in the contest due to what appeared to be concussion – the third such injury for the forward in a month.
The recent spate of head injuries would mean the Crows may need to err on the side of caution and give Tippett some rest on the sidelines in order to prepare for September, as Adelaide are certainly staking their claim as a genuine premiership contender.
The Crows opened the game with a knockout blow, kicking six goals to the Eagles’ one and never allowing West Coast back into the contest.
Alongside Vince, Patrick Dangerfield was again brilliant, with 28 disposals and two goals. West Coast may rightly lament the injuries suffered to their forward line but the midfield was where this battle was won – and it was a landslide victory.
The Crows had 153 contested disposals to the Eagles’ 127, whilst winning the clearance count, meaning they were the beneficiary of the better ball use as they streamed forward in numbers.
The quick and precise movement stunned the visitors, who never really looked capable of firing a reply.
