Brett Deledio’s 33 touches and a superhuman performance from Ivan Maric saw Richmond win their first match in a month at the Gabba.

The Tigers had to overcome a late comeback from Brisbane to surge home though, running out 48-point winners after scoring six of the last seven goals.

Richmond supporters would have been worried by the Lions’ final-term comeback, with a four-goal rush early in the fourth seeing Brisbane close to 14 points.

The Lions’ comeback undid much of Richmond’s good work in the second and third quarters as Simon Black provided an instant impact after coming on as the substitute.

Black’s selection as the sub was an odd one for the Lions, as the Brownlow medallist’s skills would have helped Brisbane win those critical clearances.

Instead, despite the Lions competing well with Richmond in the ruck, the Tigers dominated the clearances, winning 14 more for the match.

The Tigers would have been nervous as the Lions started to reduce the margin, considering their recent spate of close losses after holding strong leads, but they finally showed the mettle to withstand the onslaught.

Robin Nahas and Shane Tuck scored the two crucial goals to extend the gap once more in the fourth, motivating Richmond to kick the next six goals – blowing out the margin in the process.
